I have only been sewing three months - I know I wont have a clue about the fancy stitches right now but I dont want to get a machine that in 6 months I have outgrown but at same time dont want to confuse myself either
  • I don't know that machine or site but I can recommend www.sewingmachinesdirect.co.uk . Their service is fantastic and they have long guarantees although not the 10 years on the machine you mention. They do pay for postage to return the machine and when mine had to be returned they collected within 3 hours of the phone call. I bought a Brother from them and have used the fancy stitches to make the bags I posted pics of a few pages back.

thanks hun but it doesnt do singer - does it? I have been using Singer and thought it would be good to stick with them - such a renowned name?
  • First of all i would like to say hello and say how much i enjoy the threads on here. I peeked on here in June but i have not posted before as i was rushed into hospital with a stroke. Just about back to normal and ready to start sewing again. Going to make a bag in black cord material that i bought yesterday following a link i got on here. I am making a hook rug but using material rather then wool. H ave so many odd scrapes of material, i thought it would be a great way of using them up. It's going well, though very slowly.lol xx

Don't know if anyone can help me but I'm looking for a specific fabric. Don't know if it has a name, but its cotton with cut out pattern, similar to broderie anglais but with a bigger pattern cut out, usually floral, and a bit thicker fabric than BA. Have scoured the internet and go into every fabric shop/stall I see. Thanks.

    Hi Danemi

When I was buying mine the guy said that whilst singer were good, the 2 leading names these days are Brother and Janome so if what he said was right you shouldnt worry too much about deviating. The machine you linked to looks fine. I dont think it has an automatic needle threadle (although I maybe missed it.)

If you looking for something thats mega simple and easy to use I can recommend the one I have (this one) although am sure there are loads of machines out there that are just as good. I love mine cause its all computerised and you dont have to change stitch lengths etc. Good luck with your hunt.
