If so, buy a cushion or a pillow and use the stuffing. It's the same BS as toy stuffing but much cheaper
You'll get 3 monkeys out of a cushion and more out of a pillow :money:
Thank you didn't think of that, no pound land near me, but visiting friend next week think one near her will pop in :-)(Family of 5: 2 adults & 3 children aged 7yrs, 4yrs, and 18months)0 -
WOW....Tamster that blue quilt really nice....I too want to have a go to make one quilt.....is there any idiot's guide to make quilts please..???
I don't know especially stitching those triangular pieces together....:o
I did a beginners course at Tikki London - I was basically taught how to do this

That quilt top is on my blog & only took a couple of evenings. I like quick results so sewing individual squares/hexagons is not for me lol!
Half square triangles can be tricky because of the bias edges (which mean it is easy to stretch the triangles out of shape)
I always look for the short cut - I found this tutorial for the half square triangles - you get 4 from 1 and no bias edges!

ERRATA - This is my fav patchwork blog- lots of ideas and helpful tutorials on there.
http://crazymomquilts.blogspot.com/ (sorry I had put wrong link)
I have been busy cutting 2.5 inch strips this week to make "jelly roll" quilts for my nieces' Christmas presents.
I treated myself to this excellent book, it is suitable for beginners too. Just need to decide on which 3 quilts I am going to make!0 -
Thank you so much Tamster for the links...will surely think to try one with the tutorials......
I really get scared to stitch those triangles lol....that get stretched quite easily while stitching....so not tried it...
Thanks again0 -
Oohhhh, now I'm thinking of patchwork quilts, but what I really want to do is try and master crochet enough to make a wool blanket. I've said it before but I'll say it again ... if only paid work didn't get in the way!!
That said I've just spent the last half hour updating my blog with curtain skirt pictures ... remember ages ago I'd bought a 70s curtain on ebay and wanted to turn it into a skirt? Here it is:
It's the best-fitting thing I've made so far, but I can't see me wearing it much, I've gone off the fabric a bitWeightloss: 14.5/65lb0 -

Thanks for the link on how to do triangles didn't know that, I will squirrel that info away for future use. (how will my brain cope with all this...it's full up already!)
My quilt has taken more material than I first thought it was going to need so had to buy some more....not very mse I know but... but... but... but......0 -
Tete That's a great skirt, retro and the real deal in 70's fabric. What a shame you've gone off it....bet it would go down a storm in colleges/uni's etc. And it fits great, I think you should give it an airing around town.0

Loving all the makes everyone!
I've faffed about all week getting ready for a wedding tomorrow.
I fell in love with a lovely dress from the CS but it was a size too big and the hem was a bit uneven. I've taken it in and as it has a satin trim round the neck and waist and my daughter had a dress in the exact same satin fabric that she didn't want, I've added a band of it round the bottom and I must say it looks as though it was always there. I've also made a matching flower to put on a fascinator and we went to Abakhan's and bought some contrasting fabric which I made into a wrap.
I've also made a scented heart for the happy couple which I've embroidered with their names and the date of their wedding.
It all seems to have taken a very long time but I'm pleased with the results.0 -
