A lightning Mcqueen pillowcase for my Little Man and a car cushion to go with the duvet cover that I made a few months ago. The duvet was my very first project. I simply sewed two flat cot-size sheets together, adding a panel of car fabric at the top of one sheet before sewing. It has an envelope style back like a pillowcase.

The car fabric was from ebay, I had planned to use it in my car patchwork but when I washed the dye ran badly and it was much thinner than the other fabrics. The Mcqueen fabric was also ebay I had intended to use that in DS quilt too but knew he would love it as a pillow. He came in from pre-school and despite out-growing his daytime nap for a while now, he asked to have "nap-time" just so he could try his new bedding out! lol Glad to have such a happy client.

This is the car quilt (blogged on my homepage)

I have some blue fabric left and some car fabric - anyone got ideas for the border? I was thinking thin red or yellow border, then wider blue, then red or yellow binding? Or maybe blue, then the scraps, then blue again???????

Pennib, Hart, Shelley, Tamster and Genie (and anyone else Ive missed!) your makes are all lovely. Genie, your bag doesnt even look like it needs top stitched. I think it looks brilliant (and I love that pattern.) Re. the foot that cuts, I think this looks great (Ive been thinking about getting an overlocker but this would be much cheaper and take up much less room!! I might e-mail them and ask exactly what it does as would definately get one if it does the same thing. Tamster, I think a yellow border would go really well - it looks brilliant BTW. Hart, keep us posted on the job. That would be great (although I would probably get sacked for making bags instead of what I was meant to be doing!! lol x

Edit: Also meant to say that my teflon foot from ebay arrived. Was only about £3 which I thought was brilliant value for money and it fits my machine perfectly!

Thanks Pootle everyone is always asking about my bags, and I have the chance to sell somethings in a shop here but I'm not sure.

I was thinking the same as you regards the foot. I definitely need to think about space we are only allowed to take a certain amount with us when we move so it would be ideal.

  • Genie you should go for it! I imagine bigger beach style bags would sell well in Cyprus as well as handbag-sized ones?

Tamster that blanket is fabulous well done!

wow, some amazing makes- my wish list is getting longer and longer :-) I have just attempted my first sock monkeys- and have just managed the sewing machine bits but need to stuff them - what do people recommend? and how much do you think I would need for 3 monkeys (making for my daughters stockings) - Thank you in advance.

  • Well I'm still waiting for my overlocker to arrive. Ordered from the local sewing shop but he's having trouble getting it from Brother. Phoned me this morning to apologise so being a good little MSEer I asked what could be thrown in to compensate so I'm getting some threads as well! Do't mind waiting as long as it turns up next week, got a to-do list thats I want to start on......

    Do you have a Poundland?

If so, buy a cushion or a pillow and use the stuffing. It's the same BS as toy stuffing but much cheaper :p

You'll get 3 monkeys out of a cushion and more out of a pillow :money:
