Georgiabay - well i decided to give my first little monkey to a family friends son for his third bday and right now I am making another one for my mum, as I think i have learned a few things and it might be better turned out (want her to be proud lol!).
Has anyone tried to make a Tshirt quilt? I have loads of gig tshirts that i thought I could use but how hard is it?!
Thanks for all the support everyone! x0 -
Georgiabay; That little mouse is fabulous, so cute. That material is lush. How big is mousey in real life? You going to do a family of them? How long did it take to do? (OOH sorry lots of questions there!)
I did think the soft feel socks were going to be a pain to work with but was pleasantly suprised.0 -
Hi
I am hoping you can all help me. I've been following this thread periodically with interest and am regaularly amazed by all of the things you guys make. I have a hoard of fabric in the loft so maybe one day I will get round to using it....
Anyway my task at present is repairs - or more appropriately mending!
I took some lessons years ago and I can now sew ok using a machine. I made both my kids christening outfits and my own ball gown but I can not sew on a button to save my life!:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
My problem is I get them sewn on (by hand) but they fall off after a couple of months). I was thinking of resorting to the machine to do it but I was thinking would it sew the button to close to the garment meaning that you would never get your fingers in to actually fasten the button IFSWIM.
Any help would be appreciated!
Even my hubby suggested I U tube sewing on a button as the ones on his uniform keep coming off!:D
Thanks

Thanks. The material jumped out at me yesterday at the car boot. It was a little girl's dress and the plain orange was from the collar and frill round the bottom. Only cost me 15p. Mousey's body is just over three inches long and I've made him as a practice because I am indeed going to do a family, although he will only be a relation! I've been making him on and off today, not sure how long.0 -
Mummy Jo Hi, I don't want to read and run but I'm not much help with button sewing because I find the ones I sew on don't last as long as the ones already on.0

Thanks anyway Georgiabay... That's my problem too! I am sick of sewing them back on and I have utubed it and I can not see what I am doing wrong!0 -
Pennib, sorry I totally forgot to say I love the snuggley monkey I would imagine it is great from hiding the stitches but hard to see what your doing.
The mouse is really sweet Georgia, I like the fabric, what a bargain!
With buttons I just keep in going until the button feels tight, I've never had a problem with mine falling off but the ones already on seem to dropp off within weeks.0 -

I always sew my buttons on with double thread, that has been knotted. Then I use a matchstick between the button and the fabrc to allow for he give to move the button.
I Sew through the holes and the fabric 3 or 4 times, then on the wrong side, I push the needle part way through, wrap the remaining thread around the needle and continue to pull through. then I just do one more small stich into the knot at the back and cut off.
Havent had any complaints? When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
I've finished another mouse but I'll wait till they're all done before I put a photo on.0

Hello,
I've just found this thread and think it's fab! I've recently dusted off my sewing machine and have mostly been making roman blinds for our new house (much easier than you might think) and am gearing up to make some presents for Christmas.
Nice to "meet" you!0
