    What kind of needle did you let your DS use? My DGD is 2 and wants to help granny with her work? But I was thinking she was far too young yet! I may have to think again!.
    :D

    It was quite a fat but sharp embroidery ribbon. I figured, what's the worse that realisticaly could happen and let him go for it, I kept an eye on him and showed him how to do it sensibly. He's more like 2 3/4 really but I'd have let him have a go at 2 if I'd have thought about it sooner. DGD will love it!

    Question for those that are making sock monkeys do you use a straightforward stitch or an elastic/stretch stitch. As unfortunately the monkey's I have made have come undone. I have even stitched over twice. Just that I have been asked to make some and don't really want to give them away knowing that.

    Thanks

    Well day one of sewing is at an end and it has been ok-ish!! I spent about five hours setting up the new machine and trying the different stitching and just messing around! Then I spent another five hours making a sock monkey, and I think he turned out ok for my first attempt!

    :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

    I wondered why the page was twice the size then I saw "invasion of the giant sock monkey" and realised why!

    There is an edit option in photobucket (or whatever software you using) Go to resize then reduce to medium size.

    p.s its really cute though (big, but very cute!!) :T

    I fear that in her bull in the china shop approach to life we may end up with the sharp part in her eye!! Perhaps the way for me to go, is to see if I can find one of those plastic needles and the wide weave ieda? is that what its called.? But with a hoop is a good idea, I do have a couple of those lurking around! :D

    Lol at the brilliant but massive monkey!

    Yes a plastic needle would probably be safer, but then pencil in the eye, fork in the eye, where would you draw the line? I think I'd be a bit more extra careful with someone elses though, if that doesn't sound too terrible to say?

    What about a bodkin and an old cut up loose knot jumper, she's be able to push that through if it was stretched over a hoop.

    Brilliant idea!
    As I am Fostering DGD, it is a nightmare to keep her out of bumps and scrapes! Which of course I really cannot. But the checks on Health and Safety are pretty demanding.
    So the things I wouldnt have batted an eyelid over her mother and the others, I am nervous as anything with her!.
    (or is that just my old age kicking in!??)
    She certainly is lively, but not as bad as her mother/aunty were, with thier ADHD they were the whirlwinds, and bulls in china shops put together and then some! :o
