Not sure of the legality of copying a pattern though?

    Need advice again.

Have made cats which I was going to give as Christmas pressies, so made Santa hats and scarves, which can come off after Christmas.
Now I'm having the classic 'nobody wants to receive a home made gift and they'll think I'm a cheapskate' crisis.
Honest opinions please - would you be happy to receive this....

 I think this is the same cat just wearing different hats. :p

I'd be very happy to receive something home made with love. :)

I bought the pattern from someone on a forum - can't see any in the UK at the moment unfortunately.
I used cat litter and wadding to fill. You can make the nose from black material, or a black bead, and you will need black embroidery thread for the eyes, and sisal for whiskers. Apart from that, its just material that contrasts.

I found the first one very fiddly and had to read the pattern and instructions several times as you slash one side of each piece (apart from the tail) to allow stuffing, then sew them up.
The pattern also tells you to glue the legs, muzzle and tail on, but I sewed them, so learnt as I went along.

If lots of people want the pattern, I may see if I can put some instructions together?

I would love that! Im a bit worried about getting it then being completely lost but I think its really cute and I definately want to make one! They look adorable (and I dont even like cats!:rotfl:)

    Hi everyone
Cuddles I love the cats, they are sooo cute.
I am a long time lurker, lots of stuff I want to make but not actually got round to it yet. Anyway I want to make something like this

    http://homeshopping.24studio.co.uk/christmas/confectionery/sweets-novelties/3/cadburysantaspants/2

I think it looks fairly simple but just wondered what would be best to make it stiff and stand up.
Any help greatly appreciated and hope the link works.

Hi everyone is it ok if i join in this late in the game?! i have been reading through this thread and was so inspired that I bought a sewing machine today with some vouchers I had from last christmas ;).
My mum was so proud when i told her as she has been trying to get me to sew for 24 years (she is a very good) and I have always resisted, guess i was being a rebel! So i think my first project is going to be a sock monkey for her, I am a little scared though as it has been about 10 years since i have used a machine :o, wish me luck!! :rotfl:

Hi Lolo, You could use plastic canvas. I bought some recently to make a fabric dolls house (which I havent made yet) but its pretty sturdy.

Hi Wee elf and welcome to the thread (love your username by the way!) Great to hear you bought a machine. I hadnt used one till I got mine (after I started reading this thread) and I love it! I still havent mastered the art of sock monkeys though. I tried a bunny and it looks like an alien!!:rotfl: Let us know how you get on! x

Ive spent the afternoon buying more sewing books (tilda ones this time) - looking forward to them arriving. Also been surfing my blog lists and how brilliant are these! Might have to add them to my never ending list....

I've been wanting to make a doorstop for ages and have finally got round to it. Here it is but I still need to sew the bottom up :

Love him, is that your own pattern?
  • Yes it is, but it's come out slimmer than I would have liked. I didn't take into account that a flat owl is wider than one that's been stuffed.

Anyway once I put it to use it's no good on two counts.
One, although it's got enough weight in it, it's got a very small base and doesn't keep the door (which is heavy) open, so it doesn't do it's job.
Two, the door is in a corridor so the doorstop is approached side on and the owl looks best from the front.

So it's back to the drawing board!
