When you have a curved piece you snip the material close to the sewing line (not too close or you will have holes:eek:) then when it's turned the right way it should lie flat.

Have a look at this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dSrA-SQDo8g

Oh I see, nope I wasn't doing that, would never have thought of it!
Anyone made anything out of fabric samples >
I have loads ,made a few hearts and laminated some to make table mats ,any other suggestions?

I'm backing my shabby hearts with samples, I'm also planning to make little hanging birds like these http://www.sunrisedirect.co.uk/images/import_images/lavender%20filled%20fabric%20bird_d.jpg or these http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Ipq4eYXLWlM/SZoB-bPuwKI/AAAAAAAAAS8/8d5OHqZB_Lc/s400/bigbirdies7.jpg

as well as a patchwork throw made pretty much entirely from fabric samples and scraps.

Here's the dress I made for my daughter:

In the background is my new sewing table. OH had been complaining that the dining table was always cluttered up so I looked on ebay and found this computer table which is just right.

Wow Georgia the dress is beautiful :T Your daughter must be as proud of punch with it :D

Its great to have a space to sew, my table will still have to be used to sit my GD at when she visits as my lot don't sit at a table and my desk has relaced my dining table (no space in this house to swing a mouse :rotfl:)
Getting myself sorted 1 day/1thing at a time :) and Love sewing :)

If it's any consolation Hart I still have to move everyone elses stuff off my sewing table and we have a 5 bedroomed house. We have a dining room but the kids all still insist on eating breakfast in my room instead. My room was supposed to double as a spare dining room but only when we have guests and need a bigger table.

Georgia the dress is lovely. I won't let my daughter see it or she will want one like that too!

Have to laugh we have a large 5 bedroomed house too and I sew on the coffee table! One day I will find a place for my sewing bits but I like to be with the OH when I sew in the evening so don't want to be tucked away. Mind you I think the OH would like it because he could hear the TV!

    The dress is fantastic.

I'm looking for a new sewing table - at the moment I've got a fold up picnic table and it wobbles if the machine goes too fast, so I definitely need something more stable. A computer table sounds just the thing (and much cheaper than the Horn sewing units which cost hundreds  although I would love one :o)

I'm looking for a sewing/crafting desk for when we move house in a couple of months, our current house is a bit cramped so I have to sit on the sofa whenever I do anything crafty, and I always loose my needles/hama beads/pen/scissors etc down the sides, plus end up with the cats walking all over me whenever I'm trying to do anything! I want a computer desk with some shelves and drawers so I can store and display eveything together, hoping to find an eBay bargain!

Am I a cheap skate. Yesterday I found some very cheap little purses 2 for 1euro. Hmm I thought I would like to have a go at making purses, so anyway was sat in the car thinking how I would take it them apart and would it be messy but lucky for me the material hadn't been glued in place. So now I have a re-usable frame and a pattern to go by although I will double the length.

And today thought DS could do with some new curtains ( we have old army threadbare ones) so dug deep into the airing cupboard and found some nice blue tab top ones, so thought I can shorten them and just add some header tape (given to me by my gran) hopefully it will be voila.

The pirate outfit I made for DS last week for school,

I used bonda web for the skull & cross bones, I love it so easy to work with. I did cheat with the vest, I cut it down the middle then used a strip of wonderweb
either side to 'hem' it. Because the material was quite stretchy I didn't want to risk sewing it.
