I am so pleased I found the curtain shop in town yesterday :D I went back today after working all day and was given the fabric sample book as promised by the lady, it has 19 large squares of lovely material :j Im going to use some of them to make some frame purses.
While there I brought some beautiful cotton fabric both were £2.99 a metre so I brought a metre of both :D
I had a long chat with the owner and he said I can come back any time and see if there are any more books and I can have them as they are no good to him :j but they will be for me :rotfl:

That looks amazing. How did you do it?

Gosh what a busy day today. i am a Beaver scout leader as well and had organised a homesafety event for the kids. We had them spotting the dangers in the house, but then drama we had smoke coming from the kitchen so they all had to remember what they had learnt, evacuate the building safely (we were lucky enough to be able to use an empty house) then had one of the boys make a 112 call ( to my husband but he didn't know) and they called the fire brigade out and they went through their drills. Fantastic, kids loved it, but now I feel a bit deflated and unappreciated we had other leaders there and our area leader arrived shortly after and no-one said anything about how well it went etc. Oh hum.

Sorry back to the cake I used a loose bottomed flan dish to get the right thickness for the cake, spread the base with strawberry jam then rolled out some royal icing left some white for the mozzerella and then coloured some with red and black colouring for the salami. The peppers were red and green jelly sweets, yellow skittles for sweetcorn, cherries to look like tomatoes and lastly grated icing for the cheese look, to hot here for chocolate. Oh and a brand new pizza box. i am always baking but never tried decorating before. My eldest dd had tatty bear this year and ds had a lightsabre made from good old swiss rolls.

Ohhh Hart you are lucky - all my local shops charge for their sample books. I got a huge bit of fabric in a small charity shop yesterday - probably about 5/6 metres for £1.25!! :j It's lemon, white and grey check, very pretty.

Have spent the day organising my new sewing area after picking up a gorgeous corner dresser last week - it's now housing jam jars full of buttons and ribbons and lace and bits and a chest of draws that was under used has been roped in to store all my fabric......DH thinks I'm slightly mad lovingly folding all my fabric and trying to sort it into shades and patterns. :D

  • Oh dear Vat up to 20 %. I might just have to increase my fabric stash a bit more before January.:D

genieuk - I'm sure the Beavers appreciate what you do! It doesn't seem 5 minutes since my own son was joining Beavers, and he's now been in Scouts since February. How time flies!

I'm going to have to give the pizza cake a go now - very impressive!

Where in Cyprus are you? My MIL is from Famagusta, but the family had to flee south after the invasion and haven't been back since. They're hoping to eventually get their properties back if it ever gets sorted out.

I live just near Famagusta near Vrysoulles. We go to the market in Famagusta most weeks, the fruit & veg is lovely there and lasts ages.
Scouting has become a bit of a family affair since moving here, I started as a parent helper with my son and soon got roped in with me taking it over for a few months. One DD is cubs and the other two are scouts, and my OH has been helping as well. I think that is one of the things they are negotiating over for Turkey being able to join the EU.
