i've made some little purple heart felt keyrings today. they match the heart hanger i made for the lounge. and in our lounge we have french doors. the keys look bit ugly so i prettied them up. they look really nice. will put a picture on later.
and my 6 yr old dd really want to sew , she wanted to make a small bag. so i threaded a needle and started her off and she sewed it. ( very simple piece of square material folded in half) she then stuck on little felt hearts and stars and sequins and made a ribbon handle. it is really cute and for 6 years old she has done amazing. will show a pic tomoz.0 -
I've been lurking for a while and enjoying the thread :hello: I'm a newbie to sewing so I love seeing your pics and reading the links. I have jut had a new sewing machine so need to be brave and get going and I just saw the link to the lovely buttercup bag, is it fairly easy as a first bag?
I have been quilting by hand for a few months, currently i'm finishing a lap quilt, but this doorstop is my only finished project. It took me six hours lol!

Welcom Zippy
Love the doorstop
The buttercup bag is nice and easy to make, I printed of the instructions and followed them as I put it together, the only prob I had 1st time was trying to get the top band part to fit but I found it you bow the main bag it goes on with no problems
Getting myself sorted 1 day/1thing at a time

Hi again everyone
I forgot my password & couldnt get back in to the forums - those stupid write the 2 words that you see! GRRR
Your comments made me feel a bit better about spending so much out on getting my machine serviced - I am London/Surrey borders. I must say it is much quieter now & the "clunk" has gone. need to make sure I actually sew on it now!
Buttercup bag Although I didnt have trouble with the band I didnt quite know what to do with the handle. I ended up unpicking the sides & sewing the handle inbetween the lining & top fabric. I used quite a heavy interfacing as it was all I had but it means the bag has a good shape as I used a dress cotton.
I made a cushion front with my newly serviced machine - based on the log cabin patchwork like zippy's doorstop. - I love the colours Zippy. And Kandi your clips are great! There are so many lovely things on here! well done ladies.
And just how do I add photos? I dont hve a blog or any flickr/photobucket account - do I need one??0 -
wow zippy the door stop is fantastic. i love the gisela graham door stops. never imagine i could make one. what did you fill it with to make it heavy ?0

I fill my doorstops with sand or cat litter, either seems to work well.

Aww Thank you, I filled the doorstop with polyester filling and made some cotton bags of rice and put them in the middle, its a little light though so I will put more in next time. My quilting teacher brough one in someone had bought her, it was a tiny one to use as a pin cushion...so cute!
Heres a basic pattern
