What is the buttercup bag everyone is making?
I bought some red gingham with strawberry motifs oilcloth yesterday in "Tiger" for £4 and it's 200cm x 140cm I thought that was quite cheap especially as it's so lovely. Now what to do with it? I might make some bags, I need a tiny bit for Dylan's little picnic table in the garden but what else is it good for?
Love the guinea pig bag btw!
Hi Vicki, this is the buttercup bag we are all loving

It is very easy to do and uses little fabric
The oilcloth sound lovely and summeryyou could make lunch bags with it

Hi everyone, I was wondering if I could get some advice from you lovely ladies. I bought a halterneck maxi dress from Matalan for my DSM's 50th birthday party on Saturday and I need to shorten the straps at the back by a little bit. I do have a sewing machine but just wanted to know if I should cut the straps off, shorten and attach or just bend the straps to the desired length and sew onto the back of the dress.
It's made of polyester but is very thin and chiffron-esque if that's a word. Also, I am planning on joining you lovely people once I get into sewing properly and put my cross-stitch down for a mo. Many thanks.TOTAL DEBT £12,212.46/£2000 paid offDebt Free Goal September 2017#106 Emergency Fund £482.53/£10000 -

Mrs Toast, I would cut them and shorten them, if you just bend them will that make them bulky? Have you tried Google or youtube for how to shorten straps?
23rdSpiral - lucky you! Those prints are so lovely I'd probably just frame them!
LOVE that piggy bag Witchwoo, you've manage to capture Guinea Pig character and charm perfectly (I love them but cats don't so I don't have any!)Weightloss: 14.5/65lb0 -

Hi, i'd probably just fold so that the fold is under the hem line then stitch by hand using very small whip stitches. i've done this before and it's been fine. but would love to hear anyone else's ideas...I am planning on joining you lovely people once I get into sewing properly and put my cross-stitch down for a mo. Many thanks.

Thanks very much Tete en l'Air, I think I'll go with your idea as I think it would be tidier. Thanks for the suggestion though 23rdspiral. It's obviously a personal preference thing. I will hopefully put a picture up later of the altered dress if anyone could advise on how to do that.
I think I might have to join the cross stitch thread as well. It's just having the time to do some cross stitch, sewing, housework, baby clubs and looking after DS. It's all go being a SAHM lol, not that I'm complaining. :rotfl:TOTAL DEBT £12,212.46/£2000 paid offDebt Free Goal September 2017#106 Emergency Fund £482.53/£10000 -
Good luck with it Mrs Toast! I normally just copy and paste pictures from my Flickr account, not sure what others do.
After someone mentioned cross stitch I've been looking at some of the subversive cross stitch patterns on the internet and think I might do this one, haven't cross stitched for a long time but I do quite enjoy it and would be pleased to have this finished product to display!Weightloss: 14.5/65lb0 -
Well done Spiral :T on your win.
Jcr I have to stay out of the shabby chic thread because they post so many lovely sites I could spend a fortune but it also gives me loads of ideas for sewingat this rate I will be sewing something when Im 100 :rotfl:
