I have finished my quilt :j I started Friday and worked all weekend on it as I was determined to get it done
I had the squares and wadding already, brought off ebay about 8 months agoand I had a large white cotton sheet for the backing so with the long weekend away I went :rotfl:
I loved doing it and am now planning the next one. Im most proud of getting the squares to line up as the only other patchworking I have ever done was my mum's pillow cases I made for mothers day.

Yes thats where I work. Probably served you then!!
It is rip stop, but its not surprising I put stock, still getting used to what things are. I hadn't heard of it before I started working there and still not sure what people do with it! I am always asking people what they do with it. So far its been banners and kite like outdoor roof coverings for smoking areas!

I've used rip stop for waterproofing, I made a bag to go in DD swimming bag for putting wet things in and also lined her lunch bag with it. Works really well. Need to get some more for this years lunch bags actually!!0 -

It wasn't hard to do, I sewed the squares together in strips of 6 then sewed them together, I had to make sure they were lined up 1st wich was the fiddly part but loads of pins help lol. Its not perfect but Im happy
You should try it but start with a small cushion 1st
I loved doing it and now am eager to start moreGetting myself sorted 1 day/1thing at a timeand Love sewing

Loving that quilt Hart - well done you!
Have you got a walking foot for your machine?
I want to add a binding to my Puff Patchwork Quilts to strengthen them. However I don't think my machine would cope with the thickness, so I'm thinking of using a single thickness of petersham type ribbon.
Can anyone advise?Jack of all trades ... Master of none

Hart that quilting is so neat and well planned out. I'd never have the patience for that, I hate pinning and tacking which is why I hope noone ever takes a close look at my work!
I spoke to my Mum yesterday about the wedding embroidered hearts and her machine does embroidered letters so she is going to do some for me on bits of fabric and send them to me, I hope she does it soon though as the wedding is next Wednesday!0 -
Cuddles thank you for the kind comments on my quilt
I dont have a walking foot but didn't need one as the wadding I used was very thin and I just pinned it to death :rotfl: to keep everything in place.
Vicki the ironing was the worst part of the quilt (I have never ironed so much :rotfl:)
It is so nice of you mum to help out with the hearts and I hope you get some pic's to show us (I love hearts :rotfl:)Getting myself sorted 1 day/1thing at a timeand Love sewing

My little man using the apron I made a few weeks ago and matching oven glove made yesterday, he seems to have cooked me a lettuce, cactus, egg and toast casserole, delicious!0 -
Flea72 my ironing board is quite large so I need a bit more to go around it. 45inches wont be enough and its also quite wide. I probably wont need 1.5m but Id rather get to much then to little, (and have some left for another project!) I bit the bullet and bought the fabric I liked. Im going to have to look at it every day so I treated myself. Just hope I don’t ruin it during the making process! I tried Dunelm but all they had was thick curtain fabric, I wish I lived near an ikea I do love their fabric. Never heard of the range or Paul Simon will have a google for future reference so thanks for the tip.
Cuddles 123 could you explain puff patchwork? Isn’t normal patchwork filled with wadding, is there a difference? Im getting confused with the thicknesses I bought a medium and thick wadding but not sure which one to use. I like the puffier ones but have heard machines don’t like thicker wadding and I don’t want to quilt by hand, any recommendations?
Iv wanted to make the hobby horses for ages, I was going to do it freehand as its just a simple shape I didn’t think I needed one but I happened to still have the tilda Christmas book that Id borrowed from the library and there is a hobby reindeer in there so I just used the template for the face from that and omitted the antlers and sewed some fabric Id cust using my new rotary cutter and pinking blade for the mane. The ribbon was recycled- Saints and Pinners (one of my current fave fabric shops) always wrap my fabric in tissue paper and tie it with that lovely aqua coloured ribbon so that’s what I used on the yellow spotty horse.
Mureell I have a pattern for a no sew tutu you can make from tulle for a little girl perhaps? If that’s of interest Ill dig it out, let me know.
Tamster150 I love the sound of the red bus and would love to see it when you’ve finished. Im always on the look to make boys things. Theres so much more girls things to make my daughter is a bit ahead of my son so I need to do some catching up. I will check out sew hip it sounds good.
Hart44 I cant belive you made a whole quilt since Friday Im so impressed!! How big is it? It looks wonderful!0
