  • Quick material questions to all your pros! I want to make apron, have some nice cotton fabric but alittle thin. What would you back it with? Dosnt need to be waterproof but need something to make it bit more sturdy. Dont think just plain poly/cotton would do?

I cant get out to any fabric shops so bit hard to tell weights/textures on line. Any tips be helpful thanks.

You could just self face it, basically cut two shapes out of the cotton, sew them together inside out, turn them the right way in ans slip stitch the little opening, then work with them as one piece from then on x

Hi Almond, I bought a magnetic fastener from rip off Hobbycraft for £3.69. £2 from ebay is far better, although not brilliant. I thought I might try a zip in the next one. A normal snap fastener may do the job.

I've updated my blog with a couple more makes, If anyone wants to see!

    Cheers

    Hi Dizzytina,

I made the writing with iron on transfer paper, Its not brilliant, but I haven't got a fancy sewing machine with embroidery.

The bag I made up as I went along. Its just an oblong of material, folded in half, sewn up the side seams and squared off the bottom to make a base. Added the reverse of the fabric to the top of the bag and made 2 handles.

    Cheers
