    Hi,

I am new to this thread and sewing. Too many pages to read, just hope to keep up from now on.
I wonder if anyone can suggest a cheaper way of me getting instructions for my Janome JF 1004 sewing machine. Unfortunatly not listed on the free instructions site, links to a way of getting them for £8.50. I don't really want to pay that much. I do know how to use my machine in basic terms, just not sure what all the feet are for or a dial thats on the machine. I have tried to contact Janone direct, but as I don't have a american phone number, the form won't accept my question.
    Any suggestions please.

My first project that I made yesterday was a shopping bag, I took the one apart that I had to use as a pattern. Although it didn't turn out identical, I am pleased with my first attempt.

    Bye for now

  • I'm having problems with my machine. It seems to sew as a single continuous line and the bottom stitch isn't pulling down properly to form the individual stitches. A friend looked at it and said I wasn't threading it up right, well I've rethreaded it a million times and fiddled with the tension and I'm still none the wiser. She said something about the tension discs. I've rethreaded it either side of the discs and made sure the pressure foot is raised and it's still not right. Any clues? I'm desperate to sort it out and I can't get round to see my friend until later in the week :(

  • Hi Georgiabay
T shirts are jersey. Jerseys are knit fabrics rather than the woven fabrics like cotton etc which are easier to sew.
The facing is the bit of the bag that is turned in at the top. Facings are bits of material inside a garment. So something like a sleeve facing on a sleeveless dress for example.

mollymunchkin - It sounds like the TOP teension is too tight! My machine is ancient but it has a dial at the top with numbers that you need to turn down.
Don't know if newer machines have this!

Best thing is to get a scrap of fabric and keep testing after just altering the dial a bit at a time.

The thread running through the tension discs should be slightly taught - if it is really loose/really tight, then the threading is wrong.
