Hello all, haven't been posting for ages as don't have time to sew a lot at the min, but I have been lurking. Just wanted to show off my cushion cover, which was a little girl's dress from Next via charity shop, even the plain red bits are made from the lining.
Hmm, Dinah is my 'real-life' sewing class partner, she's putting me to shame!
ETA - Hart, I'm the oppposite at 6ft, that's why I'm looking at making a maxi dress myself as the ones in the shops are never quite maxi enough!Weightloss: 14.5/65lb0 -

I love the cushion, such beautiful colours :T

I love your cushion Tete - it's lovely to be able to take something you can't use and turn it into something else you can.You can stand there and agonize........

Morning everyone,
Dinah your dress is amazing. I bought a smock dress pattern to make a dress for my little girl. i have cut out all the pieces but haven't started putting it together as it just seems so much more complicated than when i last made one at school (mind that was 20 years ago!!) and all the terminology is confusing me.
I am also scared of zips i just don't know where to start. Also do i need a special foot for my machine? I only have one foot and i thought i need to change it for zips or can i use the one that came with my Brother machine?V 12500 B 8300 N 1900 Oct £51/£1550 -
You will need a zip foot, but with your brother machine is there not one in the little pack that came with it, that contains spare needles and a screwdriver? You can stand there and agonize........

It's very pretty. And I'm 6 feet too! but I'm also about 6 feet around so I need a plus size long length maxi dress. :eek:craft craft craft!0 -
I'm sure you're not! It's the good thing about making your own clothes though, you get a tailored fit whatever your shape or size, if you do it right that is! Not sure I'm quite there yet!Weightloss: 14.5/65lb0

Re jersey dress, do you have to change the tension on your machine or use a different kind of needle? I want to make a copy of a jersey dress I already have but Im a bit scared of the material and have never used it before. Any tips would be welcome!
A slight ig zag stitch and a ballpoint needle, the stitch isnt a VVVV more of a --v--v--v stitch (but the dashes at the top of the v!), like an elongated blind hem stitch. I've been playing about with scraps, hope to start on the actual dress tonight.Tete_en_l'Air wrote: »Hello all, haven't been posting for ages as don't have time to sew a lot at the min, but I have been lurking. Your cushion is gorgeous and you find the best fabrics - and your first project certainly went better than mine. I just have more time atm to fiddle about.Morning everyone,

Aye you need a zipper foot, but try ebay, I picked one up for my Janome for only about £3 + postage. There are some good video tutorials on youtube, or google for lapped zip tutorial.
Really annoyed, I ordered some veil patterns about 10 days ago, and they're still not here - don't they get its going to take me months to embroider the damned thing and I'm bored and want to make a start!Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

23rdspiral, the trouble with my patchwork is when I look at it now I can see if I'd taken more thought with the arrangement of shades and colours it could either look like building block steps or flower shapes because I've used diamonds. When I started it I couldn't wait to start sewing it together and just added pieces randomly. Then as time went on and I'd done more dressmaking so got different materials I realised that if I hadn't got much of something from the beginning it would only end up in one part of the patchwork. I think I'm going to make a bag out of it but I've got loads of diamonds cut up plus the spare material so I might do something with them that's a bit more thought out.0
