I've decided that I'm using some of my Tesco vouchers for a subscription to Prima. Until it was mentioned on here I'd forgot it existed but used to get it all the time years ago. I've made quite a few of their dresses and skirts.0

The bigger purse was a kit I brought off uhandbag.com as I wanted the pattern. I had made 2 by making my own pattern (followed the uhandbag tutorial) but it took a lot of goes drawing around the frame before I got it right
The Uhandbag kit was lovely to use and Im so glad I brought itGetting myself sorted 1 day/1thing at a timeand Love sewing

hi Georgiabay, i'm taking part in a patchwork-along, hosted by an american lady called Texas Freckles. this just really means support and encouragement (much like here), but with the chances of fabric swaps too. i'm making a 1" each side hexagon quilt. if i go full size i think i'll need 1178:eek: . so i've a bit of a way to go yet!Georgiabay wrote: »23rdspiral, the trouble with my patchwork is when I look at it now I can see if I'd taken more thought with the arrangement of shades and colours it could either look like building block steps or flower shapes because I've used diamonds. When I started it I couldn't wait to start sewing it together and just added pieces randomly. .
i understand what you mean when you say you wish you'd waited for a 'propper' pattern to appear before sewing them together, but i think your layout is beautiful and believe it wont matter if you just carry on.Georgiabay wrote: »Then as time went on and I'd done more dressmaking so got different materials I realised that if I hadn't got much of something from the beginning it would only end up in one part of the patchwork. I think I'm going to make a bag out of it but I've got loads of diamonds cut up plus the spare material so I might do something with them that's a bit more thought out.
there's been lots of discussion of what layout patterns to use - and everyone is doing different things. some people are piecing as they go along, which as you said, will mean a few of the same at one end of the quilt but none at the other end = i think that's cool as it means it will show the history and evolution of your fabric style choices!! If i go the 'charm' quilt route, that's ALL different fabrics! So I might do 2 of each, or 2 of some so 'matching games' could be played with it. This means the pieces i attach now will be quite different from those in a few years time... but i'm ok with that.
here's a link to some different layouts we're playing with: http://www.texasfreckles.com/2010/03/charming-hexagon-layouts.html Melanie talks about the problem of new vs old fabrics just above the 'colour spectrum' photo.
and here's a link to all her hexagon related posts, there might be some inspiration there! http://www.texasfreckles.com/search/label/Hexagon%20Piece-Along
sorry!! these hexies are more than a little obsessive-making! good luck with whatever you choose for your diamonds!!Relax, Breathe, Love 2014 Challenges:Cross Stitch Cafe Challenger 23. Oh wow, Dinah that maxi dress is amazing. If i'm honest I saw the pattern posted a while ago and though it looked really old fashioned and a bit frumpy but that one you made is so, so beautiful. I think the pattern makers would sell a lot more if they put a photo of your dress on than the drawings they are currently using!
Tete, nice cushion, are you a former member of the fashion thread?
Thanks everyone who linked for the zip, I will try, soon, maybe in a couple of weeks...0 -
