  • Kandipandi - your peg bag is so pretty :T (and doesn't look wonky at all). I'm don't normally bother with fancy pants stuff like the rikrak as it's a bit fiddly but yours looks lovely - you've inspired to me to give it a go - any tips??

Sunshine - your bags are also brill - I so wish we had an ikea near us as their fabric is so reasonably priced. Thank goodness for online fabric stores!

Mooloo - children's clothes are great for quilting fabric or patchwork as they are are normally lovely little patterns and bright colours. I often use my little boy's old clothes to add bright patches to fabric journal covers, bags or passport covers (as I can't bear to give them away!). I've also made good use of some of my husband's old sweatshirts for lining things :) Best of luck with it x

23rdspiral - good luck with sorting your nan's clothes. It's a really sad job to do but when we did my gran's we found loads of old treasures that we'd forgotten about which brought back lots of happy memories and laughs. Wish I'd been into sewing then, as I could have 'recycled' some of them (into peg bags, tote bags, purses...;)) and kept hold of them rather than giving them to the charity shops!

    Hi everyone

Havent really been able to join in yet as my sewing machine wasnt working, had it fixed couple of weeks ago but its still not right so going back to menders today. Will be without it for another week.

Made a start on making some crayon rolls, found them quite easy to do, that was until the machine started playing up and I cant do any top stitching because the tension wont set right on the top. Have cut out some pin cushions too and have loads of nice bits of fabric waiting to get started on.

I also keep boxed full of old clothes to cut up for the fabrics. Had a go at making my daughter some knickers the other day like the tiny shorts ones. Used up some of her old t shirts and they didnt come out too bad although I wasnt pleased with the way I sewed the elsastic on round the top but she is wearing them.

Have some hand sewing to be getting on with as I am making two double patchwork quilts for my son and daughter for Xmas. They are both pieced together and one is quilted but I want to sew some beads on to the plain fabric pieces. The other one has beads on it already but hasnt been tacked together or quilted yet so will keep me busy until I get my machine back.

I just hope they can sort it out this time as had to pay £60 and I could have put this towards a new one.

Will carry on reading all your lovely posts in the mean time xx

    Thanks for comments everyone.

Kandipandi, I think the love heart stuff was £4.49. I threw out the packaging but sure its about 3m by 1.2m or thereabouts.

23rd Spiral - It doesnt have a closure as my magnetic closures hadnt arrived by the time I was finishing it off. As you say, I think it will come in handy for just chucking bits and pieces in.

    Yeah, DON'T USE IT! :rotfl:

It's a pain to work with I found, I did hand tack it on first as I usually just pin stuff all over the place and remove them as I sew but I had to take pains to sit and tack it all in place first.

No need to be embarrassed - I'm glad you like it. One day I'll learn how to make things from scratch but for the moment I'm just enjoying "adapting" stuff:rotfl:

Time is my biggest enemy (lack of) :( I love sewing and just so want to do all the projects I have waiting, I keep looking at all my fabric and thinking what I could be doing with it.

Im like you too, I love charity shops as I look at things and think mmmm now what can I do to make that different :D

PS must remember not to use rikrak lol

  • Ric rac is so lovely though. I must try and use it on something as I have a drawer full of it with nowhere to go at the moment. Do you have to follow the bends when you sew it on or just try and sew it straight down the middle?
