i was bought a SEW book with patterns in that has 40 projects. was not sure I as a very humble beginner did doubt I would that far. on the cover it has a picture of a bag that says everything you will need to make this bag is in sight. after many months finally found the courage to take machine out and empty the contents. well inside there was 2 roughish squares and then 2 lng strips of material. there are 3 buttons and a cath kidson name to sew on front. now am I being really dim by asking how do yu put the whole thing together or are there sme instructions somewhere that I have failed to so see. this is one question, my 2nd a little more in depth I have been looking at the full size patterns that I have been collecting from the prima magazine and it says if you want to use this pattern again to trace it first. what does this mean exactly? my knowledge of sewing as you can see is sketchy to say the least and not being taught properly I do have many times flaying around the floor in a state of total confusion. cant someone please guide me through the dark? lol

Hi all long time no speak! Been very busy here trying to sell our house! Very stressful! Thank goodness for sewing!

Here's a kingsize quilt I made for my sister to show you all.

That is beautiful Keza. It is almost exactly the quilt I have in my head that I will make 'one day'. Mine won't be anywhere as lovely as yours though. :(

It's gorgeous. Well done and I hope your sister loves it.
  • Keza that's amazing! Excellent work. I have been reading the refashonista blog quoted a few pages ago. Am absolutely hooked! I have a couple of items of clothing that I am refashioning :)

I think the Prima patterns are printed with more than one size on the sheet. If you are likely to want to make a different size next time then copy the size you want onto another piece of paper. I have some thin brown paper that I use for anything like that. I bought mine from a boot fair but was told by the stall holder it was masking paper from somewhere like B and Q. If the paper is thin enough you can just lay it over the top of the pattern and trace the lines through.
Another thing you have to watch with the patterns in magazines is sometimes they print on both sides of the paper. Sometimes more bits of the same pattern and sometimes a different pattern or craft item all together. If you want to use both you need to copy one side.

can you tell me if this link works please.
my first 2 attempts at 'proper' sewing (real dresses as opposed to fancy dress costume that only gets worn for an hour)
the little cream/brown dress still needs straps and detailing adding, but the other sundress is finished
    really proud of myself.
you'll have to excuse the silly face my little model is pulling, I made her get up off the sofa to have her pic taken and she's not very well (mean mummy).
off to have a look what you all have been making now and get some inspiration, also going to look for a pattern to make some little sunhats (fisherman style ones).

uh oh, for some reason it's added lots more pics than I meant to! although the third one is of the princess Leia dress up outfits I made, which then went on to become zombie brides for Halloween and angels for Christmas lol
