    Hi ladies

Im going to start making a quilted cushion cover that matches the quilt I've made. Ive got some piping I would like to add. BUT I don't know how to attach it. Can anyone help?
I'm trying so hard to be thrifty, but it doesn't come naturally. You lot are an inspiration!

is your piping already made up with the cord inserted into fabric? if so then you need to take one of your cushion squares and apply the piping to the outside with the fabric bit on the outside not the piped bit. Apply it to the right side. You should be able to bed the piping around the corners.

That sounds like it will never work but if you try holding/tacking your cushion square, the piping and your second cusion square together and then turning it the right way out it should work.

Oh and use a zipper foot to get close in to the edge of the piping!
As God is my witness, as God is my witness they're not going to lick me. I'm going to live through this and when it's all over, I'll never be hungry again

Hi - I'm a super duper newbie to sewing and have just acquired my first machine. My question is...I am assuming the cheapest, thriftiest way to acquire fabric is to trawl charity shops and car boots? I have nothing to budget for this new venture, so I guess 'reclaiming' is the way to go!

Ikea is great for fabric- much cheaper than most fabric shops. Their Florali ones are designed by Cath Kidston too and about a quarter of the price of her own label stuff! I am also planning to 're-fashion' some of my clothes that would otherwise have gone into the charity bag, and an old Thomas the Tank duvet will be turned into bunting!

I get quite a bit of fabric from IKEA (I get it instead of flowers from DH) but also I CS trawl, have a stunning blue machine emroidered skirt that I bought solely for the fabric, and a soft suede like fawn skirt bought for exactly the same reasons, as well as when they have a sale on buying a couple of clothes I like (no more than a pound) to practice altering them and getting my confidence. (it is MS as I dont waste any fabric and I do use the clothes I alter, even if to walk the dog)

Hi everybody. Just popped on to catch up with thread..everyone's been so busy. I'm currently decorating so have 3 roman blinds to make. Luckily the biggest one is plain fabric so I can put channels in it and don't have to try to sew tapes on. Not looking forward to doing it but needs must and they will look lovely when they're done. I also have a couple of cushions to do for DD's bedroom, but the fabric I was going to use for the backing is too thin, I'm going to have to use a heavy velvet to sew all the roses onto it. Then I have 2 lampshades to cover,..and then on to redoing my crafting room. I want to make a blind for there too and a pouffe...but most of all I want to find an old fireside chair to reupholster...so much to do it's overwhelming.

Hi everyone. What a lovely bag, and lined as well. Very pretty. I love
knitting and have decided to leave it for now, and concentrate on sewing. I have a sewing machine, but am a novice to it really. I have ordered a cutter and mat from Am***on, just today. I have bought lots of fabric, and would dearly love to make a quilt, so will be reading up on all your posts here. Margaret I would also love to know how to make a quilt with hexagon shapes?

I am to make my first Roman blind. Why can you only put channels in the lining on a plain fabric please?

    Debt-free and Proud!
    Hi everyone!
I'm a long time lurker and posted a few weeks ago asking for machine advice as I wanted to get a new one...welllll...My lovely husband beat me to it and bought me a beautiful Janome machine to replace my infuriatingly temperamental 20year old machine.
I'm pleased to say my love of sewing has returned since having my new machine and this little bag is one the first things I've made..bear with me, I've never posted photos before so apologies if it's bigger than it should be...don't be scared! ...
