    Hi
Can anyone please suggest a sewing book for a beginner. I need one that would be useful as a reference guide. I did sewing in school and this is going back 20years ago now.

Hi lollol. What kind of things are you planning to make and are you going to hand stitch or use a machine?

Hi all, lost my crafting/sewing mojo for awhile, but had a little fiddle and came up with these tea cup coasters. Made with linen with a cotton 'rim'.

I really like those pennib. Very different.

I would like to thank scarlett for her bits and bobs of fabric. They will be great for patchwork.

Id like your ideas of things I can make. Ive got my coursework and a machine cover for to make and thanks to hmo I have some hearts to sew but I guess im after ideas about what else I can do. What kind of things did you make when you were getting started

  • This is my first attempt at hexagon quilting. I wanted to stitch it by hand so I could do it in front of the tv and so far I am really pleased with it. It is very time consuming making each of the flowers and then stitching them together but I LOVE unpicking the running stitch and the. Taking out the papers from the ones that have stitching on all sides.

Moments - that patchwork looks really nice, pretty fabrics too. Well done on making a start.

I finished sewing my dress yesterday for the wedding. It needs a good press before I can take a photo. I have earmarked a few bits of fabric on Ebay to make a jacket to go with it but just waiting to see if I can win a lovely cardigan on there first, in which case I might not have to do it.

You might need to clean out the lint and dust from under the feed dog and around the bobbin, and even put a tiny drop of oil around the moving parts!
