Hi, can I join you please? I posted on the Family forum about getting a new sewing machine a couple of days ago, and Tiddlywinks recommended that I pop over here.
I've not used a machine in more years than I care to remember :rotfl:, but now own a Janome and I'm taking sewing machine classes at my son's school. This week I made a basic cushion cover
I've started reading from the beginning of the thread but don't have much spare time so I might just pick up from here, if that's ok.0 -
Jump aboard Kinfisherblue. You will get lots of inspiration and help from these boards. Good for you taking classes before you know it your house will be full of lovely items all hand made by yourself.0

Yes lovely doll Pennib xx
I have been making some fabric baskets today. Not quite finished them, going to make them into sewing baskets with all the bits in. I have made a pin cushion to go in as well, just need to make a needle case now. Will take some photos when I have finished them.0 -

Yes Pennib lol, I have reclaimed another wardrobe from YD's bedroom, she never hangs anything up anyway lol, and put shelves in it so I have managed to get most of it away out of site. I am going to save the rest of the big lot I got as I am dieting and think I can make myself some clothes when I get a smaller size, dont want to make anymore big ones, already gone down a dress size, not that I wear dresses lol.0

I cant get photobucket to work at the moment so cant add the pics straight to the post but I have put some on my blog showing the sewing baskets I have made. I didnt want to link the photos direct from there in case they come out giant size lol.
I am making some smaller baskets as well now, made up two this afternoon, think I might use up some of my scraps and make some patchwork ones too.0 -
I've got my second sewing machine class tomorrow and we're making a gusseted bag. I don't know if we'll finish it this week though.
I've bought a metre of striped material in different shades of terracotta. It's quite thick cotton and only cost £1.87! I'd been to Dunelm Mill first, and the only striped material that they had, suitable for a bag, was £8.99 a metre. I thought it was a bit expensive, so I went to the Ena Shaw Factory Shop (near junction 7 of the M62). Ena Shaw's are a St. Helens company, quite expensive, but always good quality. Anyway, their factory shop is great. They have an extra 25% off all fabrics on the roll at the moment, but the most expensive that I saw was £4.99 9price before the discount is applied).
I also bought two metres of cream and blue fabric to make new cushion covers for my lounge - 50p a metre, as they were in the oddments section. Two triple valances (lined - I'm sure I can make something from them) for 50p a pack, and four metres of trimming @ 20p a metre!
I might go back for the £4.99 fabric - pink cotton with an Owl and !!!!!cat design. It's gorgeous, but i've no little girls to make cushions or soft furnishings for. I might just have to make one for me!
The shop is definitely worth a visit for anyone who lives close enough. It's closed on Mondays.0
