Brilliant - thanks cookie :j:j I love it when there's a new site that I've never seen and I've got all those unread pages to explore! Whoop whoop! Guess what I'm doing this evening....? :dance:0 -
Interfacing - Yeah, i had big problems with it last week. Didn't stick too well. spent ages with iron and damp cloth. Then I thought, ok, I'll stitch it when I'm doing the bag seams. Not a good idea, totaly bunched up when sewing, right mess, project now abandoned!
someboy did suggest that I shouldn't have stitched it, but cut it smaller. But then that wouldn't have been much good cause of the lack of sticking.
Can you get some kind of interfacing that is supposed to be stiched on?
also, the duck cloth fabric from Cath Kidston doesn't seem to need interfacing, its a nice thikness for bags on its own. I've tried searching on-line for other suppliers but can't find any. Is it only CK that does duck cloth? It is so expensive :eek:0 -

but used some for the first time over the weekend - it was 'medium' weight (apparently) but it doesn't seem to have done much to my bag. I haven't finished it yet so maybe when it's done it will miraculously be super strong but I'm not convinced. I also found it didn't stick very well - I ironed it under a damp towel but it's still loose in some places so maybe I did it wrong
I'll read responses to your queries with interest.
PS Nice one on the zip - I've got as far as looking at instructions online but haven't dared attempt one yet :T:T You must post a pic
I had the same Beachhut. I thought it would stiffen my fabric but it hasnt done a thing (was the iron on stuff). I didnt use a damp towel. I just put a tea towel underneath my fabric and one on top with a high heat and it stuck fine but as I say, hasnt done anything to my fabric so Ive bought heavier stuff to see if that makes any difference. Found this on-line since posting which tells you which weight to use when although doesnt explain why it didnt work!
Re the zip, I just made a simple boxy pouch (which I have no intention of using but wanted to practise) and used this tutorial as zip instructions seemed quite easy (made the pouch much bigger though as this one is tiny). Going to try a zip using lining as well using this tutorial as it seems quite easy to understand. I would post a pic but the boxy pouch itself is very basic -am only using old fabric to practise different things just now rather than using good stuff until Im much better!!:smileyhea0 -
what are you using the interfacing for? if its for dresses the instructions will tell you what weight, if for bags etc you can get pelmet interfacing very thick.
regards zip best way to do it is stitch to below, then tack seem allowance iron
open then pin in zip. hope you understand0 -
Hi everyone
Well my C.K. ''Make'' book I won in a comp turned up this morning and after having a quick flick through, guess where its going :rotfl: yes Ebay. Im not impressed. Its such a shame as her fabric is delightful.
I had a go at making a heart from the springtime gifts book I have and the top of one side of the heart doesnt look nice and round as in the pic, so will have a go at trying to turn the cloth as I stitch a bit better on some scraps.

I had some flame fabric so made a small & large heart & joined them with a little heart button.
I need to learn how to round the tops better hehe.
Oh and my finished (at last) cushions, my mum & mum-in-laws mothers day gifts

I have just found this thread, so am very interested, and will now have to go to the beginning and catch up.
May take me some time, but I will get there.
Just planning to make another handbag, for my Mum, she is off to a wedding and wants a cream bag to go with her outfit.
Look forward to reading and learning.

Thanks for the link on interfacing will find this very useful. I have a question to those bag makers out there. Where is the best place online to get round 15cm bamboo bag handles? I cant seem to find any for less then £5 or is that around the going price?0
