morning all hope everyone is ok.

ive finished the kitchen roman blind photos on my blog its a big one just over 8feet wide and heavy woven fabric but it looks goog and the colours tie the kitchen together, we just need wall tiles and granite and we are done, so nearly there.

ive been asked to have a craft table at my dd school christmas fair in a couple of weeks, its only two hours straight after school so ive said yes.

i have cushions and bags and bits and pieces already made but yesterday while i was waiting for the dishwasher to be delivered i made a few small bits.

couple more dogs, scented sachets and tissue pockets, thought the kids may like these.

Lovely makes hmo, should go down well with the kids. The blind looks fantastic, hope your fittings are strong enough to hold it up!!

I'm making a few small things too, the new machine should help a lot, as it does satin stitch, as well as a myriad of other fancy stitches! :DAlso making some crayon/pencil rolls out of an old duvet cover that I mmade DS1 when he was little...he's 22 this xmas, where does the time go?!!

I have decided not to have a table at the fair this Friday as it runs from 5 to 9pm...and is outside!! Going to the one on Sunday though, day time, 11 to 2pm and inside!! Have booked another on the 11th Dec, and having a look at doing another on the 16th, more spaced out and gives my mmore time to recover and make more things!!

Still not able to do very much on the machine yet, but getting lots of knitting done! Looking forward to playing with my new machine...should get more things done my machine rather than hand, much quicker!!! :D

Out for lunch today, so not getting much done, maybe stuff a couple more trees...must get more decorations on them too. Will post piccies of my makes later on in the week.

Have a great Sunday everyone x

  • Hi does anyone have any links to free patterns for 1950s style retro fitted aprons with a bib and a nice sash.

These are often over £20 to buy yet can be made for as little as £2 if you choose the right fabric ; )

I've just got a sewing machine and would like to make some as Xmas presents but am having trouble sourcing a nice pattern
  • Cute makes hmo, sure they will go down well.
    That cape is stunning avstar!
Lovely unique bouquet Miss Pixie, congratulations.
Gearing myself up to attempt the kids art bags with applique, found my christmas mojo that went a missing for a bit so need to make the most of it!
  • Btw there is a deal on KGB £22.50 for a 3 hour sewing techniques workshop in London, keep reading it and am a bit tempted!

I know most of you are very experienced and wouldn't need something like this but it might hep someone. Have not actually bought from KGB before so can't comment on they're deals, but am tempted by this one.
  • I am a total beginner at machine sewing, my new machine is the most basic you can get with just 12 different stitches on it, bought to try and save us money with me making things, so far just made a draught excluder. I want to stick to small or easy things at first to really get the hang of it and was thinking of making hubby some hankies - he uses material ones, what would be the best material to use - I know nothing about fabrics, I have been a knitter all my life, and where would be the cheapest place to buy it. I have to buy online as having no where near me that sells material and not likely to get into city to shops this side of Christmas, hubby hates going and car parking costs a fortune and I cannot go anywhere on my own.

I hope I have posted in correct place to ask thanks.

  • Hi prepareathome, and welcome to the thread.
I would think old pillowcases or sheets would be ideal for making hankies. If you haven't got any you can use, do you have any charity shops nearby because you can usually pick them up cheaply from there.
If not and you have to buy new fabric, try cotton or a cotton polyester mix.

I haven't posted for a while, but with the Christmas period upon us I find that I've been crafting like a crazy crafter!

Nice to catch up with you all, the makes are inspiring as always.

I noticed a few of you were discussing magazines of a sewing nature. I don't know if anyone has mentioned Mollie Makes? It is just simply incredible. It is the first magazine I have subscribed to and the freebies are generally sewing kits of some sort! The current Christmas issue hits the stores on the 24th and includes tons of sewing patterns for ornaments, stockings and Tilda items (including her famous dolls) It also has the most beautiful calender included as a freebie.
  • I bought a couple of issues of Mollie Makes, handsewn, and really didn't rate it at all. I think there was a "3 issues for £1" or sth similar that I took up, but didn't bother subscribing after that. I quite fancy burdastyle, but I think that it's pretty expensive over here (£67.99/12mths)
