Tamster - can't wait to see your freehand ballerinas, you're very brave, the thought of doing freehand machine embroidery scares me lol!

Vicki - love the inotab cover (altho I don't know what an inotab is :o)

Lolarosa, how exciting your machine is being delivered, you can make pretty much anything from recycled clothes fabric providing you can get enough fabric from it, so you're prob limited to fairly small projects - my most recent recycled make was pin cushions from a blouse

tirlittan - Aldi/Lidl often have sewing thread, I've bought from both and they've been fine.

Made a cover for my sewing machine this weekend, will post some picks when I get them sorted.

I love recycling things. I made DGD some PJ's out of a pair of Adult PJ jackets when she first came to me. I have quite a few garments waiting to be transformed.
I had a piece of fabric off of Ebay today. Its French farm animals and other bits and pieces on a red/white checked. I think it was originally a table runner. I want to turn it into some Oven gloves for my SiL, who has a place out in France that they are doing up.
May use some of the animals as applique on other fabrics later too.
I am going to order a embroidery foot from Viscount for my sewing machine. They said its £3.95 I think it was plus £1.95 postage.
They have always been very good to me, collecting my machine etc for servicing, and so I emailed them about the foot and had a reply within a few hours.
When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.

Thank you - have just sent request but it wouldn't let me add a message, although my photo is a very fetching 70s picture of me aged about 5, if that helps identify me ;)

I bought my last couple of lots of threads from someone on eBay who sells packs of 10 x 1000yds mixed colours (you pick) for £4.05 plus postage. It's pretty good thread and I've never had a problem with it. I did, however, forget to buy black thread last time I ordered some and had to buy some from the local corner shop, it was hung on a display and had a blue/yellow cardboard wrap around it and it threw my machine right out. Wouldn't recommend that!

I'm toying with the idea of buying the fabrics for the childrens stockings. I have found a lovely two tone purple/blue sequinned and embroidered fabric which is perfect for my middle daughter (and the offcuts would be perfect from some cushions for her room too!), some lovely cream and gold sequinned fabric for eldest daughter, blue sequinned fabric for the little man and ivory faux fur to top them all off. I can't wait to get them done!! The offcuts from the cream and blue fabric could make smaller stockings for my parents too so there's no wastage involved.

I also have the buttons to sew on to the blouse I still haven't finished (!) and I am ready to cut out the pieces for the Christmas garland I am making for the dresser inside the front door. And I've chosen the fabric for my next blouse (navy with white polka dots - very 50s!) and I'm going to put a white peter pan collar on this one.

ETA and I've ordered the wreath rings so that the children can make their own rags wreaths at the weekend. I can't wait! :D

Just been on online fabric shops browsing...Why do they have to give the price in half metres or 1/4? When you work out the metre price, they are often not that cheap...
And another question, what are charm squares usually used for? Quilting?

I bought a couple of packs of Moda charms and made this dog blanket with some of them:

and used some more for pin cushions!

Nice blanket pollyskettle. Is the outside boarder made of squares as well or is that from lenght of fabric? Difficult to see from the photo.

I guess it's just easy to have them already cut to squares.

The border was made using offcuts of the Moda extra wide backing fabric I bought at the same time, and then I edged it with satin binding. They were in my stash for over a year before I got round to using them! It was so easy to do and I liked the fact that they were all co-ordinating and cut ready for me, but I could have done it myself much cheaper, to be honest. :)

Unfortunately it's being held at the depot :( so will have to get it tomorrow, so sad, I was really looking forward to it!! Hand sewn for years, so was looking forward to the machine! Oooo I was thinking cute little clutches from an old tshirt that I have, would look so good. :)
