Pennib your free hand embroidery is always so gorgeous!
Welcome homealone, yes I second Mooloo's good advice, check out the sizes on the paper pattern and you can see just how much each seam/corner etc moves as the sizes go up, and then just keep going drawing your own.
I don't stick rigidly to so sizes on patterns, for example my hips (well backside) is a size larger than my waist so I grade patterns from the waist to the bigger size on the hips.
Have fun sewing Mooloo!0 -
Greaseproof paper?
I don't know if anyone can help with this rather strange query! I use this paper for sewing - making adjustments to patterns, tracing motifs etc as well as for lining my cooking tins.
I finished a roll and bought a replacement and the paper is thicker and brown. Can anyone recommend a brand of the traditional thin white greaseproof please.0 -
My daughter has just bought a sewing machine from this company. After she ordered it she came across some really bad comments about Coopers which frightened her. She need not have worried, each person she communicated with was very pleasant and helpful. The machine arrived a couple days after the appointed time, which was probably a bit optimistic. It was well packed and works perfectly. I wonder about the veracity of the comments on some of the so-called consumer websites, especially when the owners of the site are not contactable.0

Im not sure whether the brand makes a difference. The last roll I bought was from lakelands and it was the thicker brown stuff too, maybe your Mr T's or Asda basics would be better????
I cannot remember where I bought the roll before, but it would have been from a supermarket. I only bought from Lakelands as I was in town & had forgotten to buy it when I did big shop day before.
I also only really use guttermans thread in my machine (she is very tempremental) But It is getting harder to buy. JL and fabricland my 2 nearest habby stores only sell coats now. However coats seems to have a "stretch" to the thread which causes my machine tons of problems! ALso if the thread is old (no matter how good a brand)it may be no good as sunlight/dust etc can damage the fibres.
Also you should change your needle often - 6-8 hrs sewing or for every new project. Worn needles are the cause for most sewing machine problems.0 -

I buy the cheap stuff that my local post office sells as it's perfect for patterns (thin and white!). I can't help with the make as I throw out the wrapper when I open a roll, but the wrapping is plain white with green and red on it, I think. I shall check next time I'm there if you like"A cat can have kittens in the oven, but that don't make them biscuits." - Mary Cooper

Can I please join all of you??? I am a complete novice. My parents have just bought me a starter sewing machine for Christmas and I am keen to get started. First on my list is a toddler apron for my little girl; personalised Christmas sack for her; and a draft excluder0

Oo, another newbie, Welcome. You will find a lot of tips, hints, and links here and on the No chat thread.
I actually managed to do some sewing this morning!
Yipee.
I finished a Winnie the Pooh bag, and made a wallet and a purse. Both also been cut out since the summer, when I was making in bulk! Ha.
I had done enough by the time my daughter had arrived really but I continued till I had finished the Purse.
I had to have a sleep just after lunch though. Suddenly went all funny.
Dont feel right now.
I shall make time to photograph tomorrow. When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
I have the same problem. Tesco brand is brown but I recently got a roll in Asda and it is white.0

I only use greaseproof paper for small pattern copying. If I'm tracing off clothes patterns I use garden fleece, it's so much easier and you can sew it to make a toile.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4
