lovely top & bags!!
For those of you that asked about my Dinosaur, I hav come across this free pattern & tutorial.Tutorial here
the pattern peices look similar to mine, although I didn't do the circles for the feet. I think you would be able to leave them out & have straight feet if you wanted to make things easier.0 -
Some beautiful things on here, you're all so talented!
I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good place (online pref) to get wadding from - I've got a pattern (or "recipe" as they still are in my head!) which calls for a lighter weight wadding - but I'm not sure what counts as lighter weight!
Picking up my new sewing machine next week, can't wait! :j0 -
I have bought from asding.com, they have a waddopedia
which explains all the different wadding types.
Most wadding that you use in quilting is thin anyway as it is cotton/cotton blend. The poly stuff is lighter and fluffier but doesnt make as cozy a quilt imo. I tend to buy the wider width stuff on there as you can get 2 quilts out of the width so need less meterage. The thickness of a wadding is described as "loft" so high loft is thicker than low-loft. Not seen it described by weight before
I am sure if you google "choosing wadding" quite a few blogs will appear too giving advice.0 -
Please can somebody give me some advice? I enjoy sewing, so I'm glad I've found this thread, but I am not very advanced at certain things. I have got a vintage ebay dress with an elasticated waistband, and I can't wear the dress because the elastic affects my IBS. I want to remove the elastic, but it looks very complicated to unpick. Normally it's just a case of making a tiny hole in a seam and pulling the elastic out and then sewing it back up (I've done that before on skirts that were too tight), but I've had a fiddle about and it seems the elastic has been sewn onto the material, if you know what I mean. Will I have to unpick the whole line of stitching? What if I unpick the wrong one? (there are two). What if it all falls apart and I can't fix it again? It looks really complicated. I would appreciate your advice. I will post photos if required!0

Hi everyone, haven't done a huge amount of sewing recently but did manage to make my first ever sock monkey last night. There is a picture on my homepage. I'm fairly pleased with him and my twins are very pleased with him just need to make another one now to avoid the fights.Debt Free by Xmas 2013 No #131 £1199/£2,000

Hi everyone
I have a week off work so I can catch up with everyone again :j
I have been doing some sewing in-between a very hectic work life (I hate how work gets in the way of my sewing)
I got some fantastic Alexandra Henry fabric off ebay so I decided I need a new bag
This is what I made
I have 2 craft fairs coming up so I am in the middle of making xmas decs and lots of smaller gifts. One of the stalls my mum is doing for me in Dec so I have to get the stuff to her soon or she will be selling the few little bits she has, she makes some beautiful cards
I am getting better at putting zips in now but still have to tackle a recessed bag zip
Hope everyone is keeping well and don't push yourself too hard Moolooand hope you are feeling better soon
That material is ace. I had to do a double take as I thought those necklaces were draped over! How much material does it take to make the bag? I bet a lot of girlies will be lusting after that bag. :T0 -

Dunelm.co.uk sells wadding at reasonable prices.
I have used the 200g wadding at £1.99 a metre, which is higher loft and makes a lovely squishy, drapey quilt. They also have much lighter stuff starting at 99p a metre, and you can have home delivery or collect in store and save more money.0 -

I have finished the bag I was doing for YD, I didnt bother with the piping after all as the seams were thick enough as it is and I think my machine would have had trouble sewing through it all.
I dont know when I will be able to get a photo on my blog as OH has gone away for two weeks and taken my camera with him.
I need to sort out another cushion ASAP, had a query from someone wanting one made up for her. I should be able to do it tomorrow or later on today. I just need to get another cushion pad while I am out this morning.0
