  • Hi Tamster, what a fab make!!! Im new here and pretty new to sewing too, where did you get the pattern?
My son would LOVE one of these and id like to have a go for xmas. Also where is your blog? would love to have a look.

Just discovered this thread and its fab for inspiration!! :)

    Thanks AMWP

    Thanks everyone :)

The pattern was an from an old "sew hip" magazine, I cant seem to find it at atm so will have a look tomorrow.

However, the pattern was only 2d, so the dinosaur only had 2 legs. To make the belly & turn it into a 4 legged dinosaur, I cut out the two body pieces & sewed them together along the top only. I then spread the legs/bottom out and drew around the bottom of the dinosaur. I then made up a couple of attempts with some cheap calico that I had. I found the head a bit tricky so studied some of the DS cuddly toys. You could proably make a pattern up yourself if you are brave enough.

Thanks Hmo, I had to have a go my self, I didnt have any fabric the right colour large enough to cut the triangles out of so I sewed some small bits together to make patchwork pieces and cut them out of that. I have appliqued some letters on them with her name on, I just need to cut out some more triangles to back them with tomorrow and sew them up. I will get some bias binding when I go up town in the morning.

That bunting is lovely Mooloo - bunting gives me nightmares as I spent ages earlier in the year sewing 30ft lengths of it for a certain "well publicised" wedding - we strung it up between the houses on the street and I have saved it for the jubilee next year. I made the bunting alternate blue gingham and red gingham triangles and the union flag decor on the blue gingham flags was made from white satin ribbon, red gingham ribbon and lots and lots of bondaweb! It looked brilliant and was reasonably quick to do once I got in a rhythm! I made it out of single triangles and roll-seamed the edges rather than pinked them.

My one is quite large. The letters in the centre are 4" ones. I appliqued the letters on to the triangles, and then sewed them together, inside out, and turned them. Then I sewed mine onto Butcher Apron tape. I only sewed the letters on to every alternate triange this time, but i have done the opposite before and not had any spaces in it. If you get what i mean. Think My triangles are 9" each side, and I had 4" of tape between each triangle.

While surfing the ebay sales I came across this one, where there is a curtain shop in Morcambe selling off her excess fabrics, tie backs etc due to downsizing. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Curtain-material-fabric-sewing-voile-window-blind-cushion-caravan-boat-/150674765744?pt=UK_Crafts_Fabric_Textiles_SM&hash=item2314ea77b0 may be of interest to those who are in that area!.
Alas bit far for me to go to see.

Tamster your dino is gorgeous :T esp as you had to amend the pattern to give him extra legs, poor thing! :rotfl:

Love the bunting HMO and Mooloo, thats on my to-do list.

Hart you lucky devil with a week off - have fun and hope you get lots of sewing done.

Haven't made anything from scratch this week but I did revamp a top. Refashion seems all the rage online but I'm not sure about it, I don't find it as enjoyable as sewing from scratch.

Here's the 'after' photo, a (very creased :o) 'before' pic is on my blog
