Can I join you too please? Would like to make most of my gifts for next Christmas.

Welcome Monika, I am sure you will find plenty of inspiration, and so many tutorials to follow that you will be sewing mad very soon, if you arent already.!

I managed to cut out the bunting triangles for my order, but the letters were not so successful. My Slice machine is supposed to cut through fabric, but even the thinnest of fabrics are not actually working. I will have to persivere I suppose,. Or do the letters the old fashioned way.!
Today I have to go out, so doubt I will get to sew, but hopefully I will get back to it tomorrow.
Glad the tape measure showed up. I had the same problem the other day. Then I wanted one while I was trying to learn lace making and I hadnt got one. Usually I have one in my handbag or my overnight bag at least!
Really shows how disorganised I have become.

  • Hi everyne , hope i can join in !

i havent been sewing that long but have made a few simple things like pe bags , shopping bags a taggie for my dd etc . I was gifted a sewing machine by a friends neighbour while i saw how i got on . My mom used t make all of my clothes when i was younger and my MIL is very good at sewing so between them i get the help i need though i am still learning !

My hubby is buying me a sewing machine for my birthday next week as the one i have is not really up to much now and i would like one that does embroidery so i can put DD's initials etc on things - i still have no idea what to get though so any input greatfully recieved . i have had a scan through this thread but soo much to read but im going to have a go at that bag someone posted a few pages back the fat quarter one ..will let you know how i get on , my project for this year though is to make all my kids a santa sack.

  • Sorry ive been AWOL for a while and havent had the chance to read all the older posts yet (apart from Rikkis missing tape measure!) but will catch up shortly and post again once Ive read them all.

Welcome to the thread anyone thats new.

Claire, just incase you need any inspiration, I made these santa sacks last year for my niece and nephew which cost buttons to make and are huge! i used those fleece blankets you get in Asda/Tesco (think they were 2 for £2 at the time.) Very easy to make too.

Oh, what a good idea. I have two of those type of throws, but they do not really go with this house, (Had them when had black and red theme going on)> This house is more oranges and purples so they are not really used much. Now I can think about turning them into Santa Sacks for my DGD's. Yipee

I have just bought some of this fabric, http://www.etsy.com/listing/58098046/michael-miller-merryville-fabric . I bought mine from Thread and Patches. Excellent service, ordered yesterday afternoon and it arrived this morning. I have made 2 car mats for 2 of my grandsons. I have added a pouch with a zip to store a few cars in. Not quite finished but I love them, Christmas presents

    Hi everyone

Been awol as had some family problems, OH's Dad had a heart attack on Sunday and is in hospital but is doing quite well now considering. I managed to get a bit of sewing done the other morning, first time since I had my machine back and its going like a dream. I made myself another top. I havent got any photos yet but will do as soon as I can, there are so many other things going on though I keep forgetting about it.

We went to take his Mum home yesterday and popped into Lewisham to see if the stall with the cheap fabrics was there but it wasn't so I dont know if that's it and she's finished or whether we just missed her yesterday. I saw another fabric shop though while we were driving past so we went to have a look there and they had loads of rolls outside standing up the wall with a sign saying £1 a metre. I bought two metres of three different ones, more new tops coming up lol. I am hoping two of them would have enough left over to make bags out of. I will try to get a photo of the fabrics too when I get a chance.

Hope everyone else is well, Rufus xx
