Hi everyone:j
Just catching up on about 8 pages, as we have been glued to the computer over the last few days, keeping up with the rioting & looting and I haven't been able to go about my usual crafty business lol!
We are in the suburbs so were not directly affected, but I am originally from West London, DH works in Croydon, one of my first jobs was in Ealing and the PIL still live in West London. So sad
and now it has all kicked off elsewhere, I really hope none of you are directly affected!
However, some good news - DH has been off work this week, which has given me a bit more sewing time. (when not "riot-watching") I have managed to complete a growth chart wall hanging that I bought at last years Ally Pally show, and some blocks for my "quilting-on-the-go" quilt. I know I have said it before, but I will add a post to my blog about the technique. I think any future quilts I do will be made this way rather than wrestle a quilt through the sewing machine!
I have also very bravely started chopping into my embroidered linen collection :eek::eek: eek! I have pieces for 2 blocks ready to sew.
This is the kinda finished product I am after, but I am making it up as I go along (based on the linens that I have)
I am making up 16inch blocks, and according to my "quilting-on-the-go" book I have around another 50+ to go!!!!0 -
Tamster - I love this quilt. Sorry to ask but what do you mean by "quilting on the go" quilt?
Haven't posted much for a while have been decorating my son's bedroom. After sanding the wall, washing down and 4 coats (!!!) of paint later the painting os now finished. I made the curtains tonight. Velboa Faux Fur - Leopard. Once the rail is up and the curtains hung I will post a picture.
Now have to make a large cushion cover from Velboa Faux Fur - Osolot (it looks like Leopard but in grey tones) and also a patchwork cushion cover using faux fur samples that I had sent to me. Again will post pictures.
Have also managed to cut out a bag tonight.
Forgot to say that I bought a table off ebay last week for my sewing. It's an Ikea Norden and is great. It was lovely to be able to measure out my curtains on it tonight - no more crawlijg around the floor for me.
Back to Dorset again tomorrow so no sewing for me (might manage an hour in the morning if I am lucky).
have a good weekend all.Cross Stitch Cafe Member #59 :j

I was also wondering what Quilting on the go meant. I presume that its handsewing that you take around with you, so you can do little bits here and there? I think that that would probably be a good way for me to start quilts? But I would have to use my stash of bits and pieces and see if there are any fabrics useable. I definitely cannot afford to buy anythingelse this year, unless its for something spacific thats on order or needed to actually compliment my work, i.e. the catches, and the correct threads. But definitely no more material then that I have already. Or have on ebay waiting for the final pay day.!!When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0

Morning all
I did a bit of hand quilting last night, managed to finish the quilting on the one I am making. OH was out at work and I was on my own so I went up stairs at about 8pm and found lots of scraps to make up the binding and got it machine stitched together and on to the quilt. It was about 9 when I came back down, so I pinned it all round on the wrong side ready to hand stitch but I didnt bother sewing as I was too tired so I will finish that off this afternoon. Then I won't have any projects on the go for the first time in months lol but I have plenty more to start on. I am going to make a baby boys play mat next, I think I have enough fabric to do it. I sold the last one I made so would like to get another one on my shop.0 -
Thank you to everyone for their kind words.
I am going to attempt some sewing today, I could do with cheering myself up.0 -
Ribbons help?
I'm trying to find some ribbons to trim a special item and I really want some of the old fashioned woven or embroidered floral ribbons. Can anyone recommend a supplier. Locally I can only buy printed ribbon.
Thank you0 -

Sorry for your loss handsewn.
Love that quilt Tamster150!
Made this romper for my 10 month old son this morning. It seems just right for him though despite using a pattern for a 12 month old. I've gotta make a bigger one for him as this is meant for our upcoming trip to Malaysia in October. :eek:0 -
Lovely makes everyone, love the quilt Tamster...good luck with it all.
I'm starting to get quite excited this evening...off to the Festival of Quilts and the NEC tomorrow...going armed with a camera and a notebook. Don't plan on buying (very) much...we'll see though!
Have a great weekend everyone.
