hi, had no internet for a couple of days so been catching up on this thread, I made the dress from the vintage 1950's patterns to wear on saturday night and I loved it!! so hoping to make another one today.

I have requested to join fb group too

Any pictures of it? Would love to see them.

Have a million and one things I should be doing, so I better get off of here, and get on and do things.
I would like to be able to make some clothes for DGD for our holiday, as she has grown so much lately, and she hasnt much left that fits her. I dont want to touch her savings, so I will need to use what stocks of fabrics I have, rather then buy her clothes in the shops.!!

I have not had a chance to do any sewing this wkend as I went to see my No.1 son Saturday then my Aunt called round Sunday to show me her wonderful jeans bags she has been making, I have some wonderful ideas for my old jeans now :D

I thought I would show you the patchwork quilt that I was given, my step-dad's sister had started hand sewing it but got fed up so has given it to me + all the sqaures to finishish it :j
    I think it's Laura Ashley fabric :o

I am going to have to cut out lots of paper sqaures to finish it as it's all done by hand I thought I will finish it that way :o so not sure how long it will take :rotfl:
Getting myself sorted 1 day/1thing at a time :) and Love sewing :)

Lovely fabrics on that quilt Hart xx

I have been a bit awol as had a busy weekend with visitors. Still busy and no time to sew at the moment but I am hoping to get back into it again on Wednesday when I have the house to myself again.

How do you go about doing the fabric on the ends of the zips. Do you just add some on the end to extend it so it is longer? Is it folded under at all? I havent got my sewing head on at the moment and cant fathom it out lol but it sounds interesting and like something I could use.

You just add a doubled over length of fabric to each zip end so that when you are stitching up your sides the seam allowance stitches over the fabric rather than the zip so that the ends remain flat and dont "bumphle" up. N.B I realise some of you may not know what "bumphle" means. Im scottish and reckon my mother may have made words up when I was a kid!! :o

(Edit: just found this tutorial in my bookmarks which kinda shows what I mean re the ends. If you are using a zip thats too long just cut your zip before you add the fabric ends on.)

That's the tute I found, and it works fine for me.

Love your quilt hart - it will look lovely when it's done. I fancy doing some handsewn quilting...been collecting various materials and will be dyeing some material next week with my quilting group, so might choose colours to match the fabric I have collected.

As promised, here's piccies of my bag that I made before I went on holiday. I used it as my flght bag on my way home. Made the strap long enough to go over my head so I can have both hands free. I had someone ask me where I got my bag while I was mooching in a shop at Inverness Airport on Saturday!! :D

The material I got from D M$ll in their reduced section, the outside was £2.99/metre (used just under 1 metre); and the inside was £3.99/metre - both lovely stuff to work with. I used fusible fleece as well...pricey, but gives a great result. I didn't break any needles until I came to the long strap, and attaching it to the bag - there was a lot of thicknesses to go through, and I almost gave up...but managed it in the end.

I am really pleased with it, I had to make the bag a bit wider to hold my lap-top, that's the harness to keep in place at the back of the inside. I got all the rings, fasteners, stiffening from U-handbag, but I might investigate cheaper suppliers if I wanted to make similar ones to sell.

Right off to get house-stuff done. Have a great day all.

    Keiss, your bag is fabulous!
Was it difficult fitting those turn fasteners?

Keiss your bag is fantastic. Looks like something you can buy in the shops. Very impressive. I can never find nice fabric at that price - bargain!

Ive been making a few things but havent taken piccies of it all yet so here is one of my recent makes. Its a doorstop (well it will be once I put rice in it!).

Love the Owl doorstop - I am wary of putting rice in a doorstop because of Mice. When I made them - I used stones for weight. Is your Owl made of felt? I have to make a doorstop for my youngest Grand child's room.....thought I ought to use washable fabric as he is a baby.
