I made a changing bag yesterday for my sister who is due her first baby on Thursday :) It was my first attempt at one and I'm quite pleased with it. I also made a matching nappy strap to hold nappies and wipes together in the bag. I'm due my 3rd baby in October so I ought to make myself one too! Can't post pics yet as the batteries in my camera have run out and I can't find the charger!

I'm watching a sewing machine cabinet on ebay, it needs a bit of tlc but I'm hoping I can get it cheap which will make up for the work needed on it. Then I just have to find room for it!

Quick query please. Im cool with the actual technique of putting zips in but Ive found that sometimes the ends get stuck in the corners when you are using a zip the same length as your fabric so it wont sit perfectly when turning it out. Ive now started using fabric on the ends of my zip to combat it and it works great but wondered if anyone else used a different technique that gives the same result (I know its fairly normal that the whole zip wont turn out properly but Ive got a pet hate about zips having that lumpy bit in the corner of my projects!!)
I too played about with some zips for bags and agree that adding fabric to the end works out much better...may well come up with something better, but not yet!

Would you reccommend the book you just bought? My Cath Kidston "Sew " arrived today - love it! Has anyone got this book please -

Amy Butler's Style Stitches: 12 Easy Ways to 26 Wonderful Bags
I too have the Book Making Bible and will post piccies of the bag I made from the book before going on holiday...once I unearth the camers that is!! The book can be a bit confusing, I would rather all the techniques were together and all the projects together IYSWIM. A photo gallery of all the bags in one place would have been nice too.
I took quite a while to work out all that I needed to do for my bag, but only 1.5 days to make it. Rather chuffed with it and did a good job I think, considering it is quite complicated. For those with the book, I made the one for the laptop...had to make it a bit bigger to hold my laptop.

Right, tea is ready, so must go...see you soon.

Oh I am on Facebook too...initials MP

HMO, great case, wish we could see the hand embroidery, I'm always in awe of anyone who can do that :rotfl:

    Abatha your doll is gorgeous!

Chanel edging is always a win for me, I just purchased a jacket in that style. Good luck with it if you go ahead. Poundland have just got a load of cheap patterned curtains in recently, if that helps?

It is lovely of you to offer! To be honest, I wouldn't need a major amount of fabric. The dolls I sew for are Skipper (Barbie's little sister) sized. I'd arrange a swap with you if you wanted, I have a crazy amount of fabric at the moment. Not sure what the best way to go about this though, I understand MSE doesn't like swaps/selling? I am not on Facebook either, it rather scares me a bit!

You're welcome handsewn, I measured the fabric and I've got enough to cut off a 6inch strip, that should be plenty for a skipper size doll :)
Yep seems like MSE isn't keen on members swapping info so not sure how to swap details? amyone got any advice on how best to go about it please?

I've just picked up 2 carrier bags full of brass bag clasps from the 1920/30s off Freecycle, along with 3 books of fabric samples :D

I have a question as well - someone at the car boot sale I went to this morning was selling a Crop-o-Dile. I bought the same one a while back from QVC so didn't buy it, but she also had some of the gromlets for it, bigger than I have with the COD.

They all seem to be the same, but aren't they supposed to have backs? Or do I use the same bits for both the front and the back? I've not used my COD yet.

not sure but there was a bigger cropodile - the orange one that you could do in the middle of a page = had a larger reach and I think the gromlets fitted this - but cant swear to it!
