Hello everyone, do you have room for another?

I finally feel able to poke my head above the piles of clutter and not just lurk as I’m starting to make progress. I’ve been trying to follow flylady on and off for a while, but had come to the conclusion that we simply have too much “stuff” so that needed to be addressed first. I’m a hoarder (one of the “it might be useful one day” brigade), DH is simply messy and I can’t expect any better from DS and DD with the example we set…

However, since Christmas I’ve been trying to keep on top of a relatively tidy house and in addition I have decluttered and tidied the hall cupboard, the cupboard under the kitchen sink and most of the bathroom. Oh, and some paperwork and some of the childrens old toys. We’ve had no rubbish collected since Christmas so the council say they will take extra when they finally do collect so I currently have three extra black bags as well as full rubbish and recycling bins. Inside I have three (neat) piles of stuff for charity, freecyle and ebay.

I know it doesn’t sound like much but we’ve brought nothing in other than groceries and two future birthday presents from the M&S sale so at least it’s headed in the right direction. I guess too much snow and not enough money has an up side!

I want to thank whoever posted the Conran quote earlier, it really made sense. Living in a messy house has been making me quite depressed so it’s useful to remember that space has a purpose too. I think I’m going to copy it into my diary.

Sorry for the long post, hardly in keeping with the thread!

    A x

Well recycling was collected yesterday so can start filling the bins again! and I successfully found the floor in the office :T:T the whole pile either was found a new home, was recycled, put in a pile to shred or in a pile on my desk to deal with!

    So out:
    lots of recycling
    a few bits of rubbish
all the shredding (bought it into work and put it in the confidential waste disposal thing - much easier than putting every sheet through our shredder at home even if it's a bit naughty).

Saying what I am going to do does seem to help. I'm out tonight so not a lot of time but I'm going to do another cosmetics inventory, have gone a bit lax since finishing my 100 days challenge last July but haven't really bought anything new, mainly been pressies, but a new list of what I've got is a good idea as I'm joining the not buying beauty products challenge on here!

I decluttered my bedroom! I'm still in shock. 2 bags of rubbish, 4 bags of recycling, 3 nappy changing bags and 9 (9!) bags to the charity shop.

Floor is now clear. I can get to the wardrobes. I took the drawers out from under the bed and hoovered under there. All the kids' toys have gone back to their rooms. Cleared the tops of the drawers and tidied spare toiletries away.

I'm absolutely knackered, but man, I feel good!!! :D:D:j:j:j
