  • Hope nobody minds me joining in. Need to major declutter my house (and head :rotfl:)

Got stuff everywhere but want to sort it all in neat, easy to access places - got about four note books going for the same thing.

Xmas tree coming down tonight and meal plan to do. Ebay list also to be made and photos taken to put on tomorrow when bored in work :rotfl:

    feeling very motivated now :T:T

Everyone is doing really well. Couple of ideas where to re-house (or possibly fix) stuff:
    - Ref broken zips on bags and clothes - how about your local dry cleaners, you could see how much they charge for a repair.
    - Local hospital may welcome magazines. We also donated VHS tapes to a family room at our local one.
    - Wipes/deodorants - maybe see if there's a homeless shelter near you that may welcome bits and pieces like this. Your local Salvation Army shop may want them too (ours regularly donates blankets, clothes and even socks to homeless people - coats are always in demand, particularly at this time of year).

    IN = 0

    OUT =
Toileteries x 4 (used up stuff as part of No buying new toiletries thread) (bottles to recyling)
Xmas decs x 5 (charity shop) (note to self to do a declutter of xmas decs at start of December)
Spot on for dogs sadly 2 years out of date...
Pencil from one of those quiz books (charity shop)

Trying to focus on a different area/drawer every day.:o
:) Declutter 300 things in December challenge, 9/300. Clear the living room. Re-organize storage
:cool2: Cherryprint: "More stuff = more stuff to tidy up!"
Less things. Less stuff. More life.

Runner's World magazine (got the 3 issues for £3 offer - currently deciding whether to carry on subscribing - I do enjoy reading them, but it is just more clutter once they've been read!)

    Out

Been through all toiletries in bathroom - aftershave balm, talc, shaving foam, hair mousse and perfume - all old and part used, so into bin.

Old receipts and bits of paper recycled from drawer in kitchen. Also two magazines recycled.

    Pending Out

Few bits of costume jewellery into charity bag - will be taken next Saturday.

Two bottles of moisturiser to go to sister (I got them as a gift, but already have more than enough moisturiser to last the year!)

    Next items on decluttering list

Haven't taken tree down yet, so still need to go through decorations and get rid of some.

Go through bookcase and get rid of some books, have so many books now that they won't all fit on the shelves and we don't have any more room for another bookcase!

Everytime I see one of you getting rid of your books I'm sooooo tempted to ask for them! :o

I really need to join this thread as I desperately need to declutter but the job just seems so impossible. Every room has so much clutter and I hate getting rid of anything. Not sure there's much hope for me but if I document it, I'm hoping I may do better?! Will be reading with interest and hoping to get lots of inspiration.

Take it in little bites Tracey. Do 15 minutes at a time - just go round and pick out 10 things that you need to get rid of. That's what I'm doing at the moment - 10 things a day. I put it all on a table and take a photo of it, that way at the end of a week or however long you do it for, you have got pictures of how much stuff you've got rid of.

I am always reminded of the saying, "How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time" when I tackle my housework/decluttering. Little and often, 15 minutes a day, 10 things at a time. Whatever works for you. And when you've done it, you'll feel so liberated!!

    Good Luck!

  • Feeling a bit better today, cough not so bad but still bunged up. Took Christmas tree and decorations down today and put cards in a pile to go through later.

    IN: nothing

    OUT:
    1. Box of toiletries from under the bathroom sink. There’s cotton wool, a new talcum powder, cotton buds, that type of thing. Gave these to a friend for a homeless shelter.
    2. A bag of unwanted Christmas decorations. Had some of these for years and don’t want them any more. Put these in the charity bag.
    3. An electric back massager. Had this quite a few years ago, used it about 3 times, then it was stored away. Unfortunately during the storage the plug for it managed to get lost so it’s no good now. Have to put this in the bin because I don’t know if it would work even if I had a plug because it’s been unused for so long.
    4. 2 empty sweet tins, ashamed to say that we ate all these in 2 weeks over Christmas! I don’t need any more empty tins lying around the house and can’t think of any use for them. Offered on Freegle.
    5. 2 books that I won’t read. Going to the charity shop.
    6. Christmas TV guide – put in paper recycling
    7. 5 pairs of earrings that I bought in Claire’s Accessories’ sale. I won’t use them so I’ll give them to the charity shop.
    8. A shot glass with ‘Helen’ on it. I got this because I thought it would be a good idea for my daughter, but I don’t think she’d use it. Back to the charity shop it goes.
    9. An out of date pack of rice cakes. Can’t think why I bought these in the first place, I don’t really like them and they had got lost at the back of a cupboard. I put them out on the lawn for the birds.
    10. A pile of DVDs that we’ve finished with. In the charity shop bag.

    That's all for today...

Things that I have managed to do this weekend:
    IN: nothing!

OUT: one argos card (watched it BURN on my fire) as I realised that having finally got to a balance of £0, I don't ever have to use it again!
: one sister, back to her house after spending New Year with me
: one borrowed cat basket returned to it's owner
: one slice of Christmas cake, broken up into small bits and placed outside for the poor frozen birds
: one old pc work station, left outside the front door in the hope that somebody might knock on the door and ask for it... actually disappeared in the back of a van within 5 mins so although it would have been nice to have been asked, at least it is now with somebody who actually wants/needs it instead of blocking space in my living room :-)

Not a lot so far, but as I have already seen people use this phrase, I'll use it too..... BABY STEPS!

Hope you all don't mind me joining, I have been watching this topic for the past few days and its just what I need to get myself motivated.

    Pending:
1 large charity bag full of baby clothes ... For collection Wednesday

    Next area to target:

    Drawers/cupboards on dresser
