Phew! Made it to the end!

    You are all doing great.

I will start properly tomorrow when the kids go back to school. Today though I am going to take the cards and decs down. Card will be remade into tags - but I have somewhere to store them.

Tree will go Tuesday when DH is off work.

    This is my plan -

KITCHEN - Sort through cupboards and bin anything not used in last 6 months. Freezer inventory and food cupboard inventory - and keep them up to date!

LIVING ROOM - Sort kids toys and books. Sort DVDs and CDs and tidy computer desk - BIG hotspot.

BEDROOM - De-clutter, sort drawers and wardrobes and build chest of drawers that we've had for almost a year!

CELLAR - Big one this. Almost everything down there needs to go. Then maybe we can sort out the damp problem.

Here's to a more organised me!
  • need to get off me backside - tomorrow is bin day and I also have a charity bag which will be collected tomorrow!

  • It was my daughters' birthday yesterday and she got loads more pressies. She had her party in the afternoon and alot of people gave her money as we've all been snowed in for so long. It was nice to see loads of homemade cards as well -not really been able to go anywhere for a couple of weeks has helped everyone!

Unfortunately, I didn't get chance to get anything OUT of the house but at least with xmas and birthdays out of the way we can now have control over what comes IN
  • Hi De-clutterers, don't try to tackle it all in one go, you can start by setting yourself a simple target like filling one carrier bag per room/cupboard per day. Or you could commit to doing 20 minutes on it each day. Once you have reached a certain point the clutter will seem less overwhelming, it's making the first move that is the stumbling block.

    Hi everyone,
this is an incredibly motivating thread. Can I join please?
I too, like a lot I'm sure, feel overwhelmed and literally don't know where to start, couldn't even find boxers this morning for DS!.
So I am going to set myself very small tasks starting today!

I agree with starting small - try and find something small that makes a difference! I started with the shoe rack because I could see the difference instantly lol and it motivates you on to do something else.....then you get the snowball effect.

I tend to find that as well you find when you declutter a cupboard you dont really notice that it has been done - apart from the bin bag outside the door, so whilst its great to do, its not as good as something obvious.

  • MAde a good start this morning, four duvet sets and pillow cases, an ab cruncher and two boxes of xmas cards collected from freeglers; a whole pile of magazines recycled, 20 avon catalogues recycled (bit of a waste of money as never used them!) so far!

Getting quite into this, off upstairs to have a clean and going to find some stuff up there to sell/bin/recycle! Will report back later!

Christmas trees x 2 and all the decorations are down - and I sorted through all the boxes of [STRIKE]tat[/STRIKE] decorations of years gone by and have decluttered quite successfully. Two sets of broken lights have gone, along with a carrier bag of broken/nasty decorations, and a charity bag contains some of the things that are not to our taste but might suit someone else.

So, two less (biggish) boxes to go back into the loft later on :T

Out: All the Christmas decs are down and away in the loft. Have reused some of the boxes we had in the garage to recycle as proper storage for the baubles.
All cards down- have kept the fronts of some I really like and the rest have gone into the recyling bin. It does mean that I now have to sort out my stash of saved cards now though. Bottoms!

I have found another book to add to the charity bag:j

It's interesting the comments about "repurposing" items [I think that's the phrase they use:confused:] I've snaffled a pair of woollen socks from OH that have shrunk to use as bedsocks and a scarf to keep my neck warm around the house as he got a new one for Christmas
