After 2 years mine is running out of blades so I got him an electric razor for Christmas
how MSE of me as I buy them (darn expensive Fusion wotsits) so just hoping it works! Oh don't get me started on cleaning stuff, I use loads of soda crystals but after 2 years still have 12+ bags (same with dw salt, rinse aid etc) It's Quidcos fault, all done to bump up our Chrimbo total....we came second in the Wilkinsons one on the Quidco cup
I'll start my list tomorrowhopefully the binmen/recycling collectors will arrive. See what I can get rid of before New Year arrives.
One day I might be more organised...........

Oooh, I'm joining, too! I started the declutter last year by selling quite a lot on Ebay, but there' still a fair amount to go. I'm loving the extra space it has created, and I'm also on a major declutter of my toiletries (something else I started last year) as there is too much stuff taking up too much room. Please call me 'Pickle'

hi
can i join in please....
I really want to succeed at decluttering this year.
I did join flylady about 5 years ago but with 2 preschool children have never managed to keep all her routines going and the clutter has increased and increased.
My problem is a small 3 bed cottage, 2 young children dd 5 and ds 4, a dog and a cat, a DH who works from home and therefore one bedroom is an office, but the basic problem is me - i can not throw things away and keep them 'just in case". We have tons of paperwork that is always lost and I have tons of craft stuff that i can never find until it is too late, so i buy more...... I don't drive and we live in a rural area so i tend to feel i need to keep a ridiculously full pantry "just in case" and so we have a pantry full of old packets and tins that i can not find when i need them.
I also have tons of old baby stuff that i keep meaning to sell but never get round to doing so. There are baby seats and breastfeeding / maternity clothes in bags under the kids bunk beds but i never get round to selling them
We had building work done in november in the kitchen and so that did make me declutter the kitchen and it makes me much happier to be in there now so i hope that can motivate me to get the same effect in the rest of the house. Although at the moment i am sitting squeezed up on the kitchen table as it is covered in stuff we brought back from in laws last night, and the floor is overflowing with bags of presents, and clothes that we brought back from our christmas trip to visit relations.
The kids have nowhere to put their new toys until i get rid off some old ones....
Anyway DD is back in school on monday and DS will start his first day in reception so i am hoping to have more time to get organised with this decluttering...
glad to be joining you
I don't quite now how to start on this.... i see some of you list things that have come into and out of the house each day.....i might try that, but my problem is not that i buy too much (except for food) but that we have so much already that i need to get rid of.
I might try and think of long term goals for each room and then try and break them down into manageable chuncks and work on a room a week in flylady style.... i do have a bit of time now from start of term until half term..... but need to break the back of this before lambing time...
does anyone have any tips on how to get started when every room has stuff hidden in various places, (behind / under sofa's and beds, every cupboard has stuff fall out when you open, and i can only walk around one side of our bed....)
help, please, i feel my home could feature on one of those programmes where people watch and say how can someone live like that!)
anyway better stop typing and go and try and find the kitchen floor and surfaces so i can put the beef stew in the slow oven.
thanks for reading

I'm going to buy a big good quality plastic box to keep all the Christmas stuff in, then I'm not hunting high and low for it next year. I have also rang my Dad to borrow his shredder - need to tackle the Cupboard of Doom in the kitchen this week. EEEEK!That money talks - I can't deny,
I heard it once - it said 'goodbye'!

Need to de-clutter every room in our house. Want 2010 to be the year I get organised - health, finance, house - everything. Where do I start?0
-
Just remember that the clutter did not appear overnight, it is the culmination of months or years of "stuff".....so it will take a while to get it all sorted and out.
This thread is great because it accepts that it is going to be an ongoing thing for most of us - we are not lucky (or unlucky) enough to have Kim and Aggie come and blitz it all in 48 hours ready for us to move back into a clear space. Everyone on this thread will be decluttering slowly but surely, and by the end of the year we should all notice significant differences.
I would start off by grabbing a bin bag - going into the room that you want to tackle most, and just fill it with stuff you can throw out. Then do the same, but this time with a bag for the charity shop.
Do a similar thing every day, and within a couple of weeks you will have made a huge difference.....sometimes it is hard to let things go, and decluttering (even of crap) can be quite emotional, but once you are faced with a clear space in its place, it is a lovely feeling, and you will want to continue.
