A hint I was once given re getting rid of much loved but otherwise useless items:

Before you bin it/them, take a digital photograph. You will then still have captured the memory of the item, seeing it will bring back the memories of whatever they remind you of; but they are no longer cluttering up your home.

    Hope this helps someone.

    Ruth

Butting in here, just a lurker really, I used to do this with 'treasures' made by DD and DS when they were in nursery - you know, the cereal box creations!!

    In
Bottle of wine (although nearly out again!!!)

    Out
Conditioner that my hair hates so I would never have used.

    Mug - belated birthday present
Book I had lent to a friend

Been through all our CD's, barely listen to them anymore, only in the car really. Got a pile which i think i will take to the car boot as not in amazing condition so dont want to ebay them.
    Plenty more decluttering to do!

Mavvysmum - Do you know about Music Magpie? Might be an option for your CDs - you usually get less than you would from ebay/amazon but likely to be as good or better than bootsale & and because you're selling to the company rather than individuals its very straightforward.

    CONGRATULATIONS Merry Mary

    Update on utility room shelf:

Found a pet food dish with hay in it from when we had a rabbit (havent had a rabbit for at least 7 years ).

Threw out one of those boxes of grow your own mushrooms that has been sitting there for at least 14 years. I think we brought it with us when we moved here. Actually thought about trying it to see if it would still work, but common sense finally got the better of me and I tossed it instead :D

gosh I feel at home here!!!! lol.. I found those 2 items hilariously funny.. I bet the mushroom thing would still work.. it is mould!!

and the rabbit dish is so funny.. I'd do that!

    Carry case for Nintendo DS

    Out

Two bags of stuff to charity shop
Three magazines and various leaflets into recycling (bin finally emptied this week, so will get on on with filling it up again)

    Pending Out

Pair of jeans into bag for charity

    Next item on decluttering list

Two shelves still need to be sorted out in pantry, will tackle this tomorrow
  • Good morning everyone

    :j

    Out:
    2 portable tv's
    1 crt monitor
    1 lcd monitor
    hifi amplifier
    Fan
    Convector heater
    several hifi speakers
PC tower + sides of another tower.

All taken to the landfill/recycling centre this morning. (none of the items worked anymore)

Today I'm having a hotspot damp-down-fest. Removing the odd items here and there which seem to attract others - e.g the mobile phone and bank book on an otherwise uncluttered worktop. If I leave them there, I'm sure that by tomorrow they will have been joined by a pen, dead batteries, elastic band, odd sock and by Friday I won't be able to see the worktop - you know what I mean don't you :rotfl:

Also, a load of books to sort through - to throw, keep, charity, freecycle

A few ebays items to prepare for posting :)
