I agree with Kaz - if you have that much ironing to do surely you can't actually be using all your stuff. I don't think I would have 7 loads of ironing if I put everything we own in baskets! My DS has school uniform and enough clothes for the weekends, DD has a few more bits as she doesn't wear uniform but leggings and jeans mainly so no ironing. Hubby irons his own work shirts.

I am an ardent non ironer - in fact I choose clothes on the basis of how little ironing they need - thus i wear a lot of stretch tops and knitwear and very few blouses.

Have read the whole thread, and my sentiments exactly. Was thinking all the way through - surely you have too many clothes? Sort through the unironed stuff and you must be able to get rid of a lot of it - any unseasonal stuff can be packed away, then looked at when the season changes. Anything else, decide whether you would ever wear it again, and deal with accordingly.

I do one hour a week, and that clears my ironing pile. We both work full time in jobs that need smart clothes, and both kids have school uniforms. I also prefer to buy clothes that do not need ironing - love the crinkly blouses that you screw up in a ball and leave!!

Never iron bedding, and certainly not towels, underwear and socks. Why would you?

  • I lost this thread and have just found it again.

Very happy to say DH has just ironed everyones clothes for tomorrow so i don't need to worry about them. Still haven't tackled the cot full of clothing yet although when searching for something this morning I did notice the bulk of it is towels so not quite as bad as I thought.

guess what.. I'm hiding! No I ain't touched any ironing since I needed school trousers for DS1 last Friday which reminds me he'll need a clean pair tomorrow so I'll be forced to panic iron at approx 0800 hours ....unless we have snow and I can shove a pair of jeans on him.:D

Now do you see why my family "needs" so many clothes?
