I'm ashamed. :o I've done no ironing since I joined the challenge. I will do today though. Even if I catch up with my ironing, I still have loads of washing to do - and I mean loads! The dryer is in the garage and it's cold out there, and the sensor light has broken, so it's dark too (and it's slippy!) I only dry sheets and towels in the dryer anyhow - t-shirts always seem to shrink in there. I have washing on radiators and a clothes horse. I don't like to do washing if i'm not going to get it dry as it can get sour - washing's not the problem - it's the getting dry at this time of year.

I have washing piled in the kitchen - and the bathroom. It's so high in the bathroom that it's dark when you go into the shower as it comes about halfway up the outside of the cubicle. My son's excema is very bad at the moment and I have to wash his clothes separately (with Ecover) and his clothes and bedding are always a mess with creams and blood, so that accounts for some of the piles of washing.

    I'm pathetic. :rolleyes::o
  • Hi Everyone and a happy new year.

Can I join the ironing challenge too? I saw this thread just before New Years and managed to do my ironing on New Years Eve.

I just don't enjoy ironing and it builds up so quickly. I have managed to do more ironing today after doing 3 loads of washing yesterday.

This phase might only last until tomorrow but I would like to still give it ago.

So far up to date with the ironing for the first time in about 3 months (or maybe 6) fingers crossed I can keep up when I am back at work.

  • I have a problem:

I have done all my ironing but I have run out of coat hangers to put it all on! Our wardrobes are full and there are two piles of ironed clothes getting nice and wrinkled in the corner of my bedroom and I see now that my sons have more clothes than is decent for two small boys.

If anyone needs an excuse for ironing aversion I think "lack of coathangers" is it:D

  • I've finally cleared all the ironing baskets - yippeee but....
have about 5 loads of washing to do!
Elegant Elephant - I know what you mean about coathangers. I've been hunting high and low for them today plus our wardrobe is bursting already, never mind what I still have to wash.
I feel another challenge comming on... reduce the amount of clothes you have! :D

Good plan - I need to learn to Ebay first - I'd love to sell some of them.

Hope you're feeling better mrscmr - nobody should iron while ill (I'm sure I read that somewhere:D)

I just wanted to add some encouragement from a reformed ironing avoider. I do it all now every couple of days. It takes an hour at most. The key to getting it sorted was to declutter the clothes first. I brought everyones clothes down to the lounge and spread them in piles. Got rid of stuff that was too small/ stained/ damaged or unloved. Then looked at what was left.
Both kids are at school so have 3 uniforms, 1 clean 1 on 1 in the wash. I figure they don't need tons of other clothes so cut them down to about 5 outfits with a couple of extra tops in case it's really chilly (I need to go through them again mind!). Because they don't have loads of clothes I find it easier to keep on top of washing and never get a big load of anything. DH will put their stuff away at times now because he realises that if it's not away then they'll have nothing to wear.

So there you have it- go for the kill!

DISCLAIMER: This method doesn't always work for husbands who like to keep hold of any old carp in case it comes back in fashion!

I agree with Kaz - if you have that much ironing to do surely you can't actually be using all your stuff. I don't think I would have 7 loads of ironing if I put everything we own in baskets! My DS has school uniform and enough clothes for the weekends, DD has a few more bits as she doesn't wear uniform but leggings and jeans mainly so no ironing. Hubby irons his own work shirts.

I am an ardent non ironer - in fact I choose clothes on the basis of how little ironing they need - thus i wear a lot of stretch tops and knitwear and very few blouses.
