2010 Ironing Challenge!

Options
Hi

Not sure if this is the right place but hopefully it is!

This thread is open to all who wish to join.
Basically I never get to complete all my ironing, I have about 7 full and overflowing baskets on the go at any one time!

So in 2010 I have set myself the challenge of keeping up to date with my ironing...

Anyone else like to join? I plan to post my progress...

Good luck to me then!

  • Good Luck... I only iron for myself and the odd linen shirt for the boys/men... why do you have 7 piles on the go? I would strongly recommend not ironing the following:

t-shirts for the men/boys in the house - they do not notice or care!
Jeans... actually better to fold them and pack away
    Towels
    underwear
table clothes/fitted sheets/pillow cases... nobody notices unless you run a B&B...

Count me in as I love ironing if I am in the mood but as I only iron for myself I can get a bit lazy!
Well lets see - I dip in and out of MSE all the time but I still come back - have done since 2007!!!

  • I'm in! I always default to ironing as my first chore, since i detest the rest, but lately i have got slack with it too.

I would definitely recommend only ironing what you need to iron as well. I look and see if the creases might drop out while the garment is hanging before ironing it.

I do find you need to iron more in winter though. Things left to dry on the radiator end up like cardboard, whereas nice line dried clothes need much less ironing, i find. :)

My girlfriend attacks the ironing with a Svelta 2 and is like a little demon ;p
  • Hi Mrs C,

I have started 'not ironing'. And it works! The secret is a good shake (of the garment) smooth it as you fold. Definitely works with towels, t shirts etc so all it leaves is shirts and trousers.

I am ex Navy and near the end of my time with them I just used to iron the 'v' neck of my shirts. Got caught out once though when we were made to take our pullovers off. Not as bad as when I had ironed my shirt but burned it. Nice big brown iron shape on the back ha ha. Also cheated with those instant shine sponges for my shoes. But we were on parade in the sun and it made the stuff on my shiny shoes sticky and all the dirt stuck to them so they were orangey grey instead of black. Got into trouble for that.

It's not laziness, honest, it's a case of looking for efficiencies of time and energy.

Another tip is the flylady method of just putting on a timer for 15 minutes and promise yourself to stop when it goes off. You will be amazed at what you get done in 15 minutes a day.

    Best of luck...

I'll join. I like ironing when I get down to it. I'm not back to work until the 2nd of January. There are 6 of us here and there's always a backlog. I'll post progress pictures to keep myself motivated. :p

I'd have started today but i'm off to the cinema. :o

Btw, I had 13 laundry baskets on the go at one time (my dad went round the house counting them!) That included dirty laundry and clean. I don't have that many any more. I think I have about 7 or 8 now.

I've been putting off the ironing for what seems to be forever except for the odd thing that was needed. The spare bed was piled high with stuff, But being here alone i spent Christmas day and Boxing day doing it. I can now see there was a bed underneath.
