Only things that get ironed in our house are formal shirts and formal trousers ..everything else gets folded and put into drawers or hung up in wardrobes. It's so rare that the iron comes out in our house last time (3 months ago for wedding stuff) we had to actually buy an iron as the old one had scaled up (hadn't been used for a very long time..over 3 1/2 years we think!).
In the past i can remember ironing a week's worth of shirts and trousers once a week for work so i have done my fair share. But now the iron only comes out for weddings and funerals!
Not ironing saves a substantial amount of electricity as well as alot of time plus your houses will be tidier for not having basket fulls of clothes all over the place!
Be interesting to see just how much electricity some of you use in ironing by attaching an energy usage device to your irons - i bet it's more than you realise. Maybe you should set weekly budgets of what to spend on electricity for ironing (using your energy monitors) and stop when you meet them...you'll soon only be ironing the essentials!
As for pictures of piles of ironing ....i think i'll need ironing as I'm just creasing up!! LMAO! (Sorry Jackie ...i still haven't got over your washing line pictures!)

Count me in. I tried yesterday and spent a few hours ironing but don't seem to have made a dent in it. I don't mind doing it once I get started - it just takes me ages to get started!0

count me in :j i iron as little as possible and love the fold straight from the tumble dryer method where possible :j but with a hubby who has a clean shirt/polo shirt everyday at work and has to be tidy i HATE IRONING ........ sorry i was getting a bit upset, let me enlighten you ... 2 boys so not much ironing there and myself only good stuff now and again but hubby is a rather large man (6'8'' and 3xl in extra tall) and one shirt takes the same time as 2 normal ones (sad person have timed myself ) so at any one time i can have 25 to 30 shirts waiting for me. Off work on hols this week and plan to get caught up with the shirt monster i'll count how many i have to start with and post back later
while i knit i think

Hi -don't have an account so have pinched my hubbies. I don't like ironing at all, so came to a deal with him - if he did the ironing - I'd let him off other chores around the house - we both still end up doing those jobs though - so I win twice !! Saying that I do try to keep the ironing down to a minimum - pleated school skirts - shake out straight from the washer and on to a coat hanger - same with jumpers. Trousers/jeans - shake and fold whilst still warm from the dryer (during winter). The only thing that really gets ironed is shirts.
Happy ironing everyone.
