I think maybe the staff might have given you the box from which the display DSi would have come from, Hence all the other bits being inside.

    That makes sense.

Needless to say he was utterly distraught and inconsolable. Christmas has been ruined by this whole affair.

If I were a betting person, I would wager the OP is not going to be content with getting the DSI :rolleyes:

I find it difficult to believe that anyone would pay £147 for something without checking that either the box was sealed and unopened or if it had been opened without making sure it was complete before leaving the store.

Have had this happen to me a couple of times.

First was B&Q with a shower - it wasnt plastic sealed but had the two wraparound straps on it. Didnt feel right as I took it through checkout and opened it within store to find it was a 10 year old shower unit inside.

Was given new unit straight away and a sincere apology.
I have noticed since then there straps now have a tamper protection device on anything over £50 so guess this scam was common.

Second time was with a gameboy.
This time is was the shop demo box I goty and they switched it.

In fairness to the OP you dont feel the weight as there is so much packaging in there and they are so well packed you dont inspect them until you get them home.

Appreciate its frustrating but my guess is Tuesday they will give you another unit.

I someones been nabbing them from the store - yours wont be the only one, and they need to run your details past a database to ensure you are not unfortunate this way on a regular basis.
  • You could ask to see the CCTV footage of your purchase. You will have to act quick as these things will be deleted on a timed basis.

My mum bought a tomtom europe for my hubby from Currys last Christmas. We didnt find out that they had put the UK one in the Europe box until we arrived in Perugia late at night and had to drive to Rome without Sat nav. Hubby assumed I had looked at the Tomtom before we left and I had assumed he had. Me and hubby had a big argument and I had to buy a Tomtom whilst over there.

We went back to the store 3 weeks after Christmas and they admitted that our Europe Tom tom was in the shop window on display. We didnt scream, shout or complain - life's too short, it was a genuine mistake by the staff during the Christmas rush.

I certainly would not have wrapped it up for Xmas without checking the contents first.

I will be interested to see how this pans out.

  • what a awful situation to be in on Christmas morning.....if true ?

Maybe its just me , but I always check when in the store, and always check items work before wrapping them up

also agree as mentioned, the box should have been security sealed ?

The box would have been security sealed and kept behind the till at the entertainment department. An empty DVD box or card would have been on display to show the item is in stock and to take the box/card to the entertainment department. Asda do the same for MP3 players and mobile phones.
