I disagree with most comments here - usually items are dummy boxed, where the box is put on display and the unit is kept out the back, where they are re-united when sold. This looks ok on the shelf and means that whenever there are no more boxes on the shelf they are out of stock and vice versa.
Occasionally people forget to check if an item is dummyboxed and just sell it anyway, it happens unfortunately.
Same with the TomTom's, I know that Curry's would take the contents, shrink wrap it, and put it in the security cage with a sticker saying what it is - when your busy and looking for a TomTom One they can look the same and it can be easy to make a mistake.Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.0 -
Well the OP hasn't been back since. To be honest I don't believe that Asda won't investigate till Tuesday. They were open yesterday and should be open today. I smell a troll here.Striving to clear the mortgage before it finishes in Dec 2028 - amount currently owed - £26,322.670

I have been reading the various comments. Yesterday after getting no where with ASDA I had to go out & purchase a replacement for my son from Argos so he can at least get some enjoyment out of the remainder of his Christmas holiday & start to get over the disappointment of what in his words is 'The worst Christmas ever'. I'm bothered about the money of course but I'm more angry about the fact that what would have been a great day and christmas for him has been ruined and that can't be replaced Christmas 2009 is virtually gone now and it's left a very sour taste in the mouth.0

sorry to hear but why didnt you check the contents before you wrapped it i checkked all the presents i brought my son before i wrapped them
if christmas was only about a "DS" for your son and you then youve obviously been teaching him the wrong thing
yes its upsetting for a child to think you getting something and its not there but you explain to him that theres more to christmas then a games console a nd youll sort it out as soon as you canReplies to posts are always welcome, If I have made a mistake in the post, I am human, tell me nicely and it will be corrected. If your reply cannot be nice, has an underlying issue, or you believe that you are God, please post in another forum. Thank you0 -

For the sake of one more day, I think a 10 year old would be able to understand the situation. With respect to this particular aspect, you cost yourself more money here, Asda is not to blame for that.
I hope you get some resolution regarding the original situation.Herman - MP for all!0 -
Hmmm......happened at an Asda that I know last year .....someone bought a Nintendo legitimately, got receipt etc ...BUT also picked up (& put in pocket) an empty box ......came back into Asda 2 days later with the same story. Manager, intent on checking what had gone wrong went through ALL CCTV footage of that area that day ...found said customer pocketing empty packaging ......
Needless to say - a "replacement" and apology were not forthcoming0 -

Did the OP just pay for a box without taking it to the cash desk?
Lol I hope not...**Thanks to everyone on here for hints, tips and advice!**:D

Would you say your son was a bit spoiled? I think when I was 10 I would understand that I had to wait just a few more days for something to be sorted out. If he wants something there and then do you always give it to him? He sounds like a melodramatic little kid if he thinks not getting a DS is really 'the worst Christmas ever'...**Thanks to everyone on here for hints, tips and advice!**:D

Couldn't you have just bought a map instead? I really enjoy map-reading and I think SatNavs take all the fun out of travelling now. I started map-reading for parents when I was about 8 because they divorced. This may sound totally stupid but there's something liberating about getting in the car with a map and having to trust yourself.**Thanks to everyone on here for hints, tips and advice!**:D

I had a similar experience in Asda a few months ago.
I'd bought a PS3 computer game, the box was sealed. Got home, unopened it and discovered a blank CD where the game disc should be.
Took it back. They replaced it no problem, it wasn't the first time it'd happened.
Some crafty bleeder had been buying the games, very finely cutting the seal at the base of the packaging, jiggling the game discs out and replacing them with a blank CD to give the box a genuine "disc rattle" ... then taking the discs back to Asda for a refund "bought the wrong game" etc etc. The staff then put the return back out on display.
They were really apologetic.0
