I was wondering if anyone on here had seen cakes by Mich Turner from the Little Venice Cake Co, she does mainly celebrity cakes but they are fantastic. As part of my level 2 course I have to chose a cake maker and study them and I am studying Mich. She does do masterclasses and if I get a good grade Im going to save up and do one of her classes ,wedding cakes preferably. Id love to know who inspires you.

Help! Am making a Halloween cake and the cauldron i have made (out of cake) to go on the top is much bigger and heavier than i thought it would be. I don't have any dowels. Will it be ok sat on top do you think?

The actual cake is 8" round and i made the cake for the cauldron in a small pyrex bowl. I plan to cover it in black fondant.

    Help???

Don't know whether this is a bit late to help babyplum, but I had the same problem a couple of days ago and just used straws ~ got dh to get a coffee in McDonalds and walk out with a fistful of 'em :D

    Thanks so much!!!

Not too late. I baked the cake today and have made all the flower paste decorations this evening. Tomorrow morning i will ice it and put all the decorations on before delivering it.

I have wooden skewers and straws here already. I think straws is actually a FAB idea. I would worry that the wooden skewers might splinter or something. I have made a little circle of black flower paste to use as a base for the cauldron so that should support it with the straws underneath. *fingers crossed*

I have just sat and made 8 pumpkins, 8 ghosts, 22 bats and 20 stars all out of flower paste and sugar paste. Can't wait to put it all together tomorrow! :D

    Hi everyone

I've been reading this thread as a secret lurker for a while now as I'm a keen cake baker thinking about trying to make money from it.

I am intreguied by the Fondant Mat that is linked on here - has anyone purchased one of these - I'm really put off by the shipping charges from the US - It works out at nearly $50 over to the UK - is anyone aware of an equilivant??

I was also thinking about buying an airbrush kit and have seen a few on ebay - the only ones which come up when i type in Cake airbrush are over £50 but their are some cheaper ones but they say they are for nail art - do you think if I sterlise them I could use them for spraying cakes?
  • Thought I'd post a pic of my unicorn cake ~ thanks for the tips guys :)

Would love to see some Halloween cake pics if you have any babyplum!

Stokegal - no idea about the airbrush thing I'm afraid but I'll be interested too if anyone else knows. I got the Planet Cake cupcake book from Amazon the other day (not that I've got a cake book fetish or anything :p) and most of the decorative ideas in there seem to sort of assume that you've got one...

    Happy baking ladies :D
