I have the 3 PME snowflake plunger cutters, I hope theyre going to be ok, Im planning on using them on my Xmas cake design for college!

After making different sugarpaste flowers and leaves, tonight were going to assemble them to make a corsage, fingers crossed ladies they dont break....

  • Could some one far more skilled in the art of sugarcraft than me (that'll be all of you then!) pleeeeaaaaasssssse tell me what I need to make a unicorn out of?

I can't get my head round the differences between sugarpaste, modelling paste, flower paste, gum paste... Basically I want to cover a cake in fondant and decorate it and have a unicorn lying on top.

Why oh why couldn't dd have requested a cup-cake tower for her b'day?!? As if a sleep-over isn't enough to contend with now I am faced with the horrors of sugarpaste ~ not sure which I'm dreading more :rotfl:

Any tips hugely aprreciated!! Oh, and how long in advance do I need to make the unicorn to ensure it dries?

    Thanks!

Is it to lie on top of the cake? As in just roll out and make a stencil to cut it out? or mould a unicorn? I just bought sugarpaste from hobbycraft and bought colours died it and made flowers. Didnt take long for them to dry out. Maybe you could get a horse cutter, and then turn it into a unicorn.

Thanks so much for your help Esmer, ideally I want a 3D unicorn like this, but I think I might be being a bit over ambitious!!

PS - I used flower paste for the Nemo as i find it is easier to model with and dries hard. I just bought a pack of white and coloured it with a bright orange sugarflair colour paste.

  • Thanks babyplum, I shall take courage from your Nemo cake - it looks fab :)

Off to order some supplies for it now, I may be gone some time as I always seem to get way-layed by things that I really don't need but sorta like the look of on cake sites ;)
