Hi everyone, have just found this thread and have had great fun reading all your tips.

I started my own cupcake business a few months back, would greatly appreciate any feedback www.charliescupcakefactory.com or http://www.facebook.com/?sk=2361831622#!/group.php?gid=115289585155826

I just wanted to know what you girls would recommend for advertising, I thought about holding an open day but dont like the idea of inviting people I dont know into my home. I dont want the outlay to be huge as i dont have a lot of disposable income!! Leaflets are so expensive to think that at leaflet drops people just put them in the bin. how did you girls go about getting into the shops? Also what health and safety procedures have you all followed. if i wanted to sell to shops or offer my products to shops what do I need?

    Thanks in advance :) xx

Have you got a facebook page/group? I've had quite a few orders from that.

What about your local gumtree? Have you tried free classified ads? Cards in shop windows, these are usually very cheap. What about your local paper?

Word of mouth has been the best thing for me so far, i'm not really in a position to be paying for advertising so I tell every person I meet and i'm lucky that a lot of my family have been getting orders for me.

    Thanks Esmer!

I have done some googling and it appears that they are more commenly known as 'nut cups' or 'nut and party cups'. Have found them for sale in the UK here:

    http://www.sugarshack.co.uk/product/31782/White_Standard_Nut_Party_Cups_pk_of_24

They have standard size and mini size. I'm gonna order some of each to try out. They aren't cheap compared to normal cupcake cases but i really like the look of them. :)

  • Hi Guys!

Wow this is still such an ispirational thread!

I go to bed and dream of cupcakes at the moment lol but with my 3 month old there's not enough hours in the day to try out all the things I want to do!

I've ordered lots of pretty cupcake cases this week I am looking at different muffin tins as the one I have is too shallow imo and the silicone ones I have seem to take forever to cook the bloomin things! Anyone got any recommendations?

I LOVE the giant cupcakes! Think they're a really good way of topping off a wedding tier too, my friend has asked me to do some for her wedding next May so think I may invest in a tin. I got a leaflet through the post this morning from firebox.com they're selling them for 14.99 which I think is pretty good!

    Happy Baking!

Wow I haven't stopped since Thursday!

Thursday - baked 48 cupcakes and two 9" cakes. Decorated 12 of the cupcakes.

Friday - my sister went into labour and messed up my super organised plans! (very proud aunt to a gorgeous baby boy :D) Decorated 30 cupcakes before I collapsed in bed!

Saturday - decorated the 2 9" cakes, I put them together to make a football pitch. Put the 30 cupcakes into boxes and tied them up with ribbon (my niece helped with this bit!)

    IMG_1575.jpg

Sunday - baked an 8" chocolate cake & 36 chocolate cupcakes. Decorated the cake and 12 of the cupcakes.

Monday - decorated 24 cupcakes. Took 36 cupcakes to the cafe, they ordered another 12 for next Tuesday :D

I've got to bake a cake for my dads birthday tomorrow, will do that later. Haven't got to bake anything til Thursday then!

Having a very early night tonight and a nice long lie in tomorrow! :rotfl:
