Hiya. I am slowly reading my way through this thread. I have just sent off my forms to the council so am hoping to hear from the soon. I know I need to get some insurance but what type do I need and where is the best place to get it from. I am hoping to be up and running asap as people are asking about my cupcakes already.
Can I also ask where you buy cupcake boxes from cheap at the moment I am buying them from the supermarket?? Thanks

They might be a while! I sent my form off early July, called mid-July to make sure that they had received it, and was informed I could start trading immediately as there was no way they'd be able to inspect my kitchen within the normal 28 days. I'm a bit OCD with records etc, as I'm scared they'll just knock on the door one day and I don't want to be unprepared.

Small business insurance, primarily public liability. I got mine through Direct Line for £58pa (including a bit of stock cover, loss of earnings etc), although I think that was slightly discounted as we have our home insurance with them.

If you're prepared to bulk buy, you can buy 12-capacity cupcake boxes from websites such as cakeboxesdirect.com. I think it works out something like 80p a box, but you have to buy 100 as a minimum order. Or invest in a cupcake courier

    Good luck!:)

Do you think you can make a business just with cupcakes? I can bake large cakes but not too hot on the decorating side(I am tryning to learn though!)

I think you can make a business from it but maybe not quite make a living from it. In other words dont expect to make alot of money. Im in the same position with regards to mainly making cupcakes but wanting to get into the big cake side of things once iv mastered decorating them. I think if you love what your doing and your not losing money then thats the main thing. And once you get into big cakes thats wen you can start making more money.

I can cover a cake and so thought about doing some stars to stick on and 21st???? I have a receipe for a choc cake Lindy Smiths I think would this be ok to cover with white icing???
Also does anyone have a receipe for a maderia please?
Another question is what size box do you put the Giant Cupcake in?

I looked at their insurance but I am not sure if it's what we need. I got a few quotes today and the cheapest was £69!!!
