All the recipes I have seen ask for candy melts, maybe because they come in a variety of colours?? I did try with some pink choc buttons but once they had set you could see sugar grains in the choc, not sure why??0

Hi everyone.
Hope you all have room for another one on here! I've been lurking on the boards here for ages and came across this thread just by accident yesterday - and I have to say I'm very impressed by the way all of you are being so helpful towards each other! I haven't been on MSE for a while, but it feels nice to be back!. I tried to read through the start of the board, but there is so much info on here! I didn't realise that it would take so long! had to take a break after page 25 and skip to the end!
I haven't managed to get hardly anywhere from when I was on the boards before, and have been toying with the idea of running my own cake business, but always seem to be put off or scared to just take the plunge ( can't think why really! )
I have 5yr old twins and now that they are both in full time school I guess I need to be looking at either going back into work, or doing something to be making even a little bit of cash - everything seems to be so expensive these days.
I don't want to rush into anything, and was hoping to think more seriously about it in the new year, but I feel like I'm just prolonging things and just need to get the ball rolling!
I just wanted to ask, with so many people seemingly baking from home and doing all these wonderful looking things, does it/ did it put you off from starting up? I just wonder if I make such an effort to get things started that I wont have any customers and Ill end up with trays of wasted cakes - and my twins eat far too many of mine already!LBM - July 2008

Does anyone know of a wholesale supplier in the west midlands or one that is open to the public. I found one once in birmingham whilst doing a search but forgot to write it down. I buy all my ingredients from a little shop near to where I live but thought there has got to be a warehouse or something that supplies all the things you need when cake decorating
some lovely cakes on the boards
thanks in advance0 -
Hi everyone, Ive been reading this thread with interest. Really looking forward to the advice and ideas. Start a decorating course next month and really looking forward to learning all the tricks. Plan on making cakes every day to get in loads of practice before I start. What do people think about freezing cakes in advance.A cupcake a day keeps the doctor at bay:j0

Hey all,I need a bit of advice, i really want to be moving my cake baking into a business but have hit a brick wall with my Housing association who have to grant permission for their property to be used as a business address (which they have initially refused and i have now gone back to them with explainations for the points of refusal) - so much for being given the opportunity to better yourself!! ( both my husband and i do and have always worked but wanted to add the baking in the mix)So at the moment i'm back to square one, i've already booked into 2 winter school fairs with the intention of selling cupcakes and i know from past experience most people at fairs aren't business's but now i'm fretting about the whole public liability thing - i've donated cakes for years with the school and being such low risk products i've never had any problems but it's just niggling in the back of my mind as is the hygeine cert (which i can easily sort out online)So, what do i do?? can i get insurance without being a business? and as my baking isn't regular (due to already working) can i just rumble along doing the odd fair should permission not be granted??ThanksTrix

Hi! I'm new on here but have been reading this for a while now!
You're all so very talented
Does anyone know where to get cupcake/muffin cases in different colours that don't peel?
Thank you very much for your helpTotal saved for Thailand £710 / £8500 = £7790 to go! :eek:0 -
Hiya do any of you make cakepops??? Where is the cheapest place to buy candy melts and sticks from please??
I get mine from Hobbycraft, it's £2.99 for a pack in there
Do you have to temper the chocolate to cover them in chocolate do you know?
I suppose to make them different colours you would use white chocolate then colour it? Is that right?
Oh, and another question, I have been asked by my local baker to be a supplier for them  they want child friendly bits, I have thought so far:
Pig cupcakes
Frog Cupcakes
Sheep Cupcakes
Different coloured cupcakes with sprinkles
Star biscuits with coloured icing
Smiley face biscuits in different colours
What do you think about cake pops?
Thank you for your helpTotal saved for Thailand £710 / £8500 = £7790 to go! :eek:0
