Wow thats fantastic, how did you make and do her hair?

Thankyou, the hair is done with my clay extruder thingy. I have this one here http://www.lindyscakes.co.uk/sugarshaper.jpg it's brilliant and I couldn't do without it! I use it all the time.

Once I have pushed the modelling paste through the extruder (so I have a long thin snake) I then cut in into individual pieces and stick it to the head one strand at a time. You can then trim the hair as desired. Hth :D

I find that grease coming though is usually an indication of poor quality cases, unfortunately. However, I use the Primrose Hill recipes and don't find these too bad. HTH x

Aha! I didn't know that. I bought them from Sainsbury's. What cases would you recommend?

I use ones from Squire's Kitchen, as I live locally. Also Morrison's do brown muffin cases (they are large though, being muffins...), these are ok too.

I haven't really shopped around much as am fairly new to doing this other than for pleasure so hopefully others here can help a little more.

(If you have the money, Vestli House do amazing, beautiful cases but they are about £4.50-£5 for 20!)

  • I second HelenPie re the Vestli House ones - they're stunning and superb quality but if you want just regular cases I find the Easybake ones really good, the grease doesn't come through at all and they're not too expensive and come in different sizes ( I use the muffin ones for cupcakes) and loads of colours/designs... I get mine from a cake decorating place but they're pretty widely available online.

Fab cakes btw ladies, only just catching up since Christmas!!

Some tips please if you don't mind? :)

I've been asked to make a cake for my friends dads birthday. He's a handy man so I'm thinking bricks, mortar and trowel.....I have no idea where to start though. He wants a chocolate sponge, which is fine, I can do that, but apart from that I have never done a cake like this before.

    Help! :) xx

I may just try and make one big brick, or two instead of making a wall of bricks...if you know what I mean. I saw that tappit last night actually, but think the whole brick with a trowel on top may be better?
