I need some help with my new FPC moulds I acquired over the weekend....some of them are tiny and I'm finding it impossible to get them out without ruining them. Any tips?

    Me too. Help please anyone!?

My client agreed to pay £100 for the cake! Yay :j Though, as i turns out, I will probably still be out of pocket due to other work I've had to turn down and all the materials that will be going into it.

just wanted to chime in on the cake price issue......
Having set up my business in march last year after much badgering by friends and relatives for 26years ! I have found there are a lot of people who do appreciate the time and work involved in creating bespoke cakes for their special occasions . I have also found myself being very annoyed by those people who call me in the evening on a saturday (new years day to be precise!) and want a cake for the bank holiday monday and then tell me £30 is to expensive (for a 7 inch deep fill iced and decorated vegan cake at such short notice)!!!
I politely but firmly told them that is the price and they can take it or leave it . - they never did order the cake !
Things I am having to learn:
1.Never under sell yourself , the price you quote people should reflect the standard of your work , the time involved , the ingredients , local market prices (i have much competition for standard cakes around here but vegan and dairy free not). I also only produce my own cake designs , no character cakes (due to copyright issues) and no photo cakes (lots of competition for this market here)
2.Learn to say no (this goes for cakes designs that just won't work and taking too many orders )
    3. Not everyone will accept your quote , some people will go elsewhere , some will try to haggle, some will be rude , some will not be customers they will be rivals fishing out your prices.
    4. Do not deviate from your plan - don't get distracted by all the wonderful things every one else is doing . concentrate on what you like doing and are good at !

I'm curious about that one too Nat21Luv, I have a few recipies I'd like to include in my book, but while I can make dark chocolate generic, I can't work out what the unbranded description for a creme egg could possibly be!

I would imagine the answer to that is yes, as the name would be a registered trade mark or copyright in some way. Perhaps you could describe the contents of the egg and what it's made of instead of just the name (or maybe you could get away with saying 'like' or 'similar to'). For instance, A milk chocolate Easter egg with a runny icing cream centre, 'similar to' a creme egg.

Oh and a thought for all of you earlier who were saying customers were complaining about the price and 'Asda are cheaper' how about doing simple taste tests. Take a few squares of Asda cupcakes and a few of yours to your next client meeting. If they prefer the Asda ones then you can use their cupcakes and just add your own decoration for a cheaper price.
  • I live in Wakefield, we have a shopping center called the Ridings, a woman there has just started a cake stall selling specially designed cupcakes as well as some of those giants ones you see on the JML advertisement.
I know its not much help but its just an idea to put out there.
    :)

Wow, WELL DONE!! The sugar paste seems well leveled and smooth. Did you make the cake topper?

I have an order for 50 cupcakes and I never made cupcakes :o. The client would like half vanilla sponge and half chocolate, all with sugar paste on top. I tried to bake some victoria sponge type and the cases went really greasy.
Should I try recipes with less fat? Any tested recipes that you would like to share? Are the cupcakes smaller then the muffins?

Thank you in advance for your advices.
