Wow fab cupcakes lauraw78. I hope u did well 2day with the event. Can I ask where u get ur recipes from?? Also the cases ur valentine cupcakes r in r beautiful can I ask where they are from.
I think I may struggle selling cupcakes as griends and family thought that £1.25 was too much "you can get them from Asda cheaper" was what they had to say!!!! I am cupcake crazy and really want to make a business from this. My oh is in the process of tiling the floors and walls in the kitchen and once this has been done I shall be ringing the council, I just hope I can make a go of it

I tend to mix and match recipes....I use the hummingbird recipe for a plain vanilla base, it seems to be the best I've used so far and cheapest as you don't use so much butter, they rise well, have a gorgeous texture and taste fantastic!
The recipes for the toppings differ...my vanilla is based on this recipe http://!!!!!!!.com/6yq6c7m I change it very slightly but this is a great recipe! The chocolate one I use is from allrecipes.com , pretty much one of the best website for recipes in my opinion!
I always find it best to try recipes that have ratings on...then you can adapt to suit you!
The cases are from the http://thecakedecoratingcompany.co.uk/catalog/ I wouldn't recommend the larger baking cups...they tend to lose shape and customers find the cake difficult to get out, the smaller ones are brilliant though...see my christening cupcakes for the ones I mean, The cupcake wrappers with hearts on are okay but to be honest I wouldn't get them again, you have to make a huge cupcake to make them look halfway decent and that kind of defeats the point!
Anyway, the community thing went okay, made some money but hardly anyone attended...great practise for me though and I made some good contacts! On the way back, in an attempt to get rid of some cakes I happened upon a new cafe on one of the most popular streets in Liverpool and they're VERY interested in my cakes....sooo chuffed, also got back to an email from another great cafe who are very interested so absolutely chuffed. Feel on top of the world today!
Pictures from my little table sale today on facebook....lol

Who would buy their wedding cupcakes from Asda?!!
Exactly, I dread to think what they taste like...even the ones from Marks and Spencers are not exactly fabulous!
When you do your business plan and see what other people are charging you will find out that that's actually lower then the average price!0 -
Hi folks.
I'm trying to decide what flavour cupcakes to make to go with the 40th/50th/60th cake.
I was thinking of doing a chocolate cake for the 8" top cake so want some different flavour cupcakes for people that don't like chocolate.
I was thinking of doing some basic vanilla cupcakes with vanilla buttercream but also want some exciting flavours. Maybe a strawberry one with jam in the middle and strawberry buttercream. But i am stuck for other ideas.
(I will be decorating them all with bright sugarpaste flowers.)

Who would buy their wedding cupcakes from Asda?!!
Oh god! It makes me totally cringe now but for my wedding cake i bought tons of ready made cupcakes from Sainsburys and then decorated them myself. To be fair, i was trying to do lots of things myself to save money and just didn't have time to bake the cakes. But looking back i wish i did as they tasted cack!!! lolI'm FINALLY debt free! I've got my first proper commission! :j
I'm really pleased. It's a 13th birthday cake (chocolate with buttercream filling and covered in sugarpaste).
I'm a little concerned though: the design requested is really complicated and is going to involve at least 10-12 hours of intricate pastillage work (I'm a complete novice too so probably even longer due to likely mishaps!).
Given the size of the cake and my time, that means I should be pricing at around £100!! Would be amazing to get this but I'm concerned that quoting it will scare off the customer and I wont get to do it at all....
Any advice would be appreciated? Has anyone come across people willing to spend this much on a kid's birthday cake before (I certainly wouldn't, though I know this client could afford it...)

Hi
I can't really give anyone advice on prices as I always undercharge:eek: Hubby goes mad with me as I spend hours and hours making sugarpaste figures etc and barely cover my costs most of the time. I'm doing a cake this weekend for a colleague and I quoted her £55 but I've already spent £30+ on supplies and put hours of my time into modelling the figure etc! I do go a bit mad though with shimmer sprays, glitters etc which is what makes the cake look really pretty in the end. Saying all that she still gasped when I quoted her the price which really annoyed me as I know how much work will go into it:mad: I find people want a fantastic cake but at Asda prices:(Feb GC £80 per week (Well I'm gunna try:whistle:)
