£1 a cupcake is too much?!! Do they not know that tesco sells 2 for £2 and they're carp?! Jeez some people! I sell mine for £2 each and small ones for £1 each. Dont do too bad and had no complaints (apart from a car boot sale-they wouldnt even pay 50p!!)

I've just been approached by a local company who would like me to join forces with them to do wedding packages-she owns a beauty parlour with lots of contacts...the only way is UP!! :D

I was just wondering if any of you lovely ladies would be willing to share your favourite cup cake frosting recipe with me please? I've got to make a batch for my niece's birthday party & I'd like to make them like the whipped american style frosting ones rather than just a dollop of buttercream.

    TIA

  • Its my birthday tomorrow and the tradition is that I have to take in cakes to work! So I baked 12 x carrot and orange cupcakes, and 12 x vanilla cupcakes with a choclate and Bailey's icing today. They have been tested by my two teenage boys. One said they were 'peng', which I think is teen for good, the other said 'yum, why don't you ever make them for me?'. I think people generally love cupcakes, they are one of life's small pleasures! Good luck on all of you who are thinking of going into business selling them x

    Hello ladies (and gents?) :hello:

Things are going great for my little business, I got my first wedding booking of the year, 50 cupcakes and a small cutting cake, they're coming for a tasting next weekend.

I've also got a photoshoot booked in for Monday (luckily it's a friend on twitter so she's only charging petrol) so I can get some professional looking pictures of my cakes for my website.

Got a good networking event next week, over 60 local businesses are going and I can take cupcakes/cakes to display there.

Getting a lot of hits on my website now, it's top 3 in Google for really good, relevant search terms so that's great.

I've got a Peppa Pig cake to make for next week so i'm doing a royal icing run out, does anybody else do these? I love them, it's like colouring in :rotfl:

I've made up a batch of royal icing so I can make some other things too. I think they're a great way to get a really good design on your cake without modelling.

Esmer those sticky toffee cupcakes look great :D

Kelly-Lou - my cupcakes range from £1 to £1.50, depends how they're decorated. I think you need to find out what they sell for in your area, then price accordingly. Don't worry about what your friends and family think, loads of my family say I overcharge for my cupcakes but I sell plenty of them so obviously people are happy to pay it, I actually think my prices are very cheap but then I know what a lot of others sell them for. And don't forget you need to make a profit so work out how much it costs to make each cupcake.

I've found ebay to be the cheapest for boxes, I was buying them from cupcakeboxesuk but now I always check ebay first.

    xx

You know something I do need to do - try new flavours. I'm always so concerned about the decorations that I always stick with very basic flavours. So going to try to make a new flavour each week. :D

I'm going to be introducing 'ranges' now when it comes to flavours, both to add variety & as a way of increasing my prices a little. So I'll have a basics or "classics" range at £1 a cake, and then for example my "desserts" range which will probably be £1.20. Sticky toffee pudding, chocolate fudge cake, strawberry cheesecake... you get the idea!

I think flavour is very important, in fact I'd like to think it's what sets me apart from some of the other local cupcake companies who just have a base range of basic flavours that they then build on with decorations.

There's a lad I went to school with who does the same thing as us (although he's been doing it for years) ane he does a lot of different flavours.

Where do you get your recipes from? A book or do you make them up yourself? x
